Sarah, a Project Coordinator at Early Start, University of Wollongong, plays a pivotal role in supporting the Evidence-based Healthy Activity and Nutrition for Children and Environments (ENHANCE) research projects, funded by NSW Health's Prevention Research Support Program (PRSP). Sarah collaborates closely with researchers and students to ensure that NSW Health's expertise is integrated into each project, covering aspects such as The First 2000 Days, primary and high school-aged children, all with a strong emphasis on promoting healthy food and physical activity.
Moreover, alongside her responsibilities at Early Start, Sarah is actively pursuing a PhD that leverages social marketing to enhance physical activity and reduce recreational sedentary screen time in children in the Pacific Islands. This project is a part of the Pacific Ending Childhood Obesity (ECHO) Network initiated by the World Health Organization.
With a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition (Hons.), Sarah's passion lies in improving children's health and well-being through evidence-based practices.

Welcome to the Early Start Expert Insight Podcast with Professor Lisa Kervin. Today we chat with guest host Dr Clara Rivera about her research on the co-development and co-design of digital play for preschoolers. How can children have a voice in the digital development of their own learning?

-	More information about Dr Clara Rivera:
Dr Maria Clara Rivera is a Lecturer in Language and Literacy at the University of Wollongong and also an Associate Investigator with the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child. 

Clara’s research focus employs co-design as a participatory approach guided by children’s rights methodologies to develop understandings of children's conceptualisation of their experiences with digital technologies. Her PhD explored the perspectives of children as co-designers and co-researchers in the development of an app for preschoolers. Drawing from the principles of children’s rights methodologies and the field of Child-Computer Interaction (CCI), the study was the recipient of the 2021 Beth Southwell Award for Outstanding Thesis in Educational Research awarded by the NSW Institute for Educational Research and nominated for the 2021 AARE Ray Debus Award for Doctoral Research in Education.
