Fusion: A Collaboration Between UPFUSION and Viennese Cinnamon

The first time I encountered Viennese Cinnamon was during one of my most memorable jam sessions. I had set up a temporary studio in a crystal cave deep in the Himalayas, far away from the usual distractions. As I was experimenting with some offbeat scales and melodies on my electric guitar, I noticed an unusual audience forming—penguins, of all creatures, seemed to be grooving to the sound.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get more surreal, a figure emerged from the blizzard outside. The man looked like he had been through a lot, and as he stumbled in, the penguins parted to let him through. After catching his breath, he introduced himself as Viennese Cinnamon. With a story as wild as mine, we instantly hit it off.

One week later, after many cups of tea and coffee, and several mind-bending improvisations later, we're proud to present to you our first track together: Fusion.

This track is a true blend of our styles, capturing the energy of our spontaneous meeting and the unique vibes of that crystal cave.

"Extinction" explores the darker, more profound aspects of life through its minor harmonies, creating a sense of depth and mystery. It's a track that delves into the idea of disappearance and transformation, reflecting the complex nature of existence.

Extinction

Convergence is a nuanced exploration of urban life, unfolding at a deliberate, unhurried pace. This track seamlessly fuses the relaxed rhythms of instrumental hip hop with sophisticated keyboards and evocative guitar solos, evoking the dynamic spirit of a city that never sleeps. Throughout the composition, the organic process of clustering emerges - individuals gathering, ideas intersecting, and energies aligning - set against an ambient backdrop of city sounds, from distant car horns to the subtle hum of the streets. The result is a rich sonic tapestry that vividly captures the vibrant, harmonious complexity of metropolitan existence.

Evolution is an experimental jazz fusion composition. With smoky rhodes keys, deep double bass, and a sax that vibes with guitar solos, this track flows through mixolydian, japanese, and dominant phrygian scales. It’s all about that natural evolution - merging, adapting, and connecting everything into one smooth, endless groove.

At its core, a driving bebop double bass sets a fierce, rhythmic foundation, symbolizing the unyielding pulse of life. Over it, fast, intricate guitar solos rise and fall, their fluidity representing the unpredictable twists of evolution, pushing boundaries as they soar beyond the familiar. As the composition reaches its apogee, a lush string section enters, embodying unity and resilience, underscoring the universal fight to preserve life and its endless potential to evolve - not just on Earth, but across the universe.

Life, the seventh composition on the album LIFE, is a delicious jazz piece. It features soulful rhodes and organ melodies, with layers of vibraphones weaving through the background, creating a rich tapestry of sound. This composition celebrates the beauty and abundance of life, conveying its fruitful nature with dynamic rhythms and harmonious interplay, radiating warmth and positivity throughout.

Water is a charming smooth jazz composition that flows with the essence of Earth's natural harmony. The track features warm, soothing rhodes, an enveloping saxophone that glides effortlessly through the melody, and a sonorous, clicky organ adding depth and texture. Through its fluid, gentle transitions, Water evokes the subtle transformations of our planet, mirroring the serene yet powerful forces that shape the Earth and its waters. Hypnos' Prelude, named after the Greek god of sleep, explores the mysterious D Locrian mode. Inspired by the ancient Locrians, this track highlights the scale's tense and unstable qualities, creating a sound that feels both timeless and contemporary.
