Next up in the Fast Forward Audio Series, we present: NEBBIERI

NEBBIERI is a stage name of a charismatic DJ, Marita Nebieridze, whose sets are based on the synthesis of techno, electro, and breakbeat. Her music vision was inspired at an early age by artists such as Kate Bush, The Prodigy, Psychic TV, Wendy Carlos, Kraftwerk, Brian Eno, and many more. The inspiration was depicted in her wonderful record collection. Later on, her enthusiasm transformed into a new initiative - aged 18, Marita eventually started DJing and throwing a regular home party series in Germany, alongside friends and like-minded people.

Since returning to Georgia, Marita debuted at HOROOM and then at BASSIANI’s queer night series HOROOM NIGHTS. Besides music, things that really inspire her are sci-fi literature and the surrounding environment and social life with its daily occurrences. Therefore, she considers DJing to be a very special responsibility, as inspired by the music and social happenings simultaneously, NEBBIERI thinks a DJ can compose and express a dramaturgically rigorous story.

Fast Forward Audio Series #76: Nebbieri

Oslo trance outfit Accelerationism is the brainchild of Marius Bø & Teo Bachs, whose trippy, high-energy sounds were born back in 2017 as a series of open-air woodland raves. The Norwegian duo are co-founders of the Ute Collective, an umbrella sobriquet spearheading their current charge alongside other artists with forest gathering division Uteklubb and imprint Ute.Rec (and sublabels Sinensis and Translusid for a deeper dive into ambient-, hardtrance as well as Goa). The pair are even known to distribute their music as mix CDs from time to time, an appropriately authentic and tangible format for a 90s sound having such a profound resurgence in a world dominated by digital media. There’s clearly a lot on their plate, and that’s maybe not so surprising: the same passion the duo pours into their many projects is manifested by a diligent and lightning-fast brand of trance - this rabble-rousing duo has energy in abundance. Bassiani Podcast 175 channels Marius and Teo’s firebrand spirit and clandestine forest gatherings with emotive nostalgia as well as fresh and radical optimism. This mix consists of unreleased nordic trance for a dazzling and uncertain future.

Close Bassiani collaborator and Georgian heavy hitter Kancheli is guest number three for experimental event series Zenaari’s new Mix. He’s also the third Bassiani/Horoom resident to contribute an episode, proof that the best dancefloor artists aren’t just focused on narrow category constraints but push themselves through deep sonic research and experimentation. The former percussionist and Jazz enthusiast takes inspiration for a wealth of different genres: though this particular junket is a detour from his usual Techno dispatches: a weird and wonderful exploration in sound that segues from warmer ambient melodies, to reflective monologues, through brooding instrumentals and insectlike clicks. A liminal rally of disparate and thought-provoking sounds from the Tbilisi mainstay and club resident.

Second Tbilisi-based resident to grace our special Bassiani x RYC summer collab, Nebbieri steps in with two hours of straight mind-altering material for the buffs. A deluge of uptempo alien wares and left-of-centre breaksy manoeuvres blended with homing hi-tech warheads, Nebbieri’s delivery takes no byway to get its message across. As with all Bassiani in-house jockeys, she undoubtedly masters the art of transition and radical tempo switches to perfection, and the ruthlessly addictive buildups she unreels here attests to her magnificent mixing skills and unfaltering resolution in wreaking absolute havoc wherever she gets to play at. Beware an atomic summer with Oppenheimer coming to theaters mid-July. Meanwhile here’s Nebbieri nuking out the competition, clean and tidy.

Dishing out his own part - and what a choice cut! - of the Bassiani gospel through the RYC waves this week, Georgian wizard Kancheli fires off a stupendous two-hour round of his immersive take on techno music, beautifully merging cinematic depth of field with hi-impact kinetic grooves. A former percussionist and Jazz head, Kancheli flexes the width of his musical palette to compelling effect, clashing full-blown functional DJ tools against abstract-adjacent flights to form his own dynamic yet hypnotic dance grammar away from normative constraints and ephemeral fads. The result is a bumpy, shape-shifting masterclass of a mix, bridging the gap betwixt proper floor-focussed explosiveness and more inward-gazing extrapolations. Complex and refined, a techno work of art.

A relatively new initiate to the dancefloor’s call, since 2019 Mancho Dimitrishvili has been flexing her DJ muscles and carving a niche for herself in her Tbilisi hometown. Her name is synonymous with steady progressive trance, as well as a wider contribution in the form of genre-diverse beats. Whatever you want to call it, little more than watching the crowds in her custody will provide ample evidence she’s doing something right. Bassiani Podcast 183 is highly charged house, emotional, exuberant, at turns beautiful, others a little more suspenseful. A winding crusade travelled through unflagging 90s trance, ambient rhythms and Hi-NRG bangers. This one’s two hours of straight up joy recorded live on the Horoom floor.

Desde su aparición, el proyecto ha sido a menudo etiquetado como “pitch black techno war funk“  (citado después de una reseña inicial de Boomkat) y estrechamente asociado a lo que más tarde sería etiquetado como el movimiento "tecno industrial". Esto posiblemente se deba a la estética radical de la máquina que Ancient Methods ha convertido en un sonido característico inconfundible desde hace más de una década.
