Will be her debut show at Operator Radio - online radio station and cultural platform based in Rotterdam. She serves fast-paced melodic rhythms with a fragrance of hysteric surprises. Don’t be surprised by some heavy kicks layered with trippy grooves. Due to covid-19 her club gigs were unfortunately cancelled, but hopefully August will bring her brighter days.

Who better than DIAL stalwart Efdemin could wrap up the year on such a distinctly class-act type of note? Probably no one. He who’s become an absolute gem trader over the years through a string of epoch-making efforts, including the time-proof masterpiece that is “Decay” in 2014, drops by to grace us with a mesmeric Xmas tale by way of waving goodbye to 2022. Extruding elements of techno deepness out their usual cast to mingle them with that exploratory, jazz-inflected approach of his - subtly pairing the lingering beauty of stretched-out synths with that of free-flowing 4x4 grooves and haunting melodies, Efdemin entices us on a path of delectably focused and flavourful techno sensibility. An absolute pleasure and honour for us to round off 2022 in such good company.

Regent joins for DifferentSound Podcast #244.

Regent’s sonics blur the lines of early techno nostalgia and seeking innovation, merging elements from both to form the emotive narratives his records are known and played for. His blueprint for melting rapid grooves with distinct cerebral layers & samples has been manifested in numerous records released on key players like ARTS and Mutual Rytm.  The Berlin-bred artist has a similar ethos when behind the decks, drifting more into the 2000s tribal spheres mixed with obscure, futuristic trips and unreleased studio cuts. Always trying to learn from his surroundings en route, Regent continues to push conceptual boundaries and further deepen his signature past-meets-future sound with standout mixes & productions.

We had the pleasure of taking you from the night into sunrise through many sub-genres in our record collection. It felt so good having the freedom to craft the set exactly how we wanted on a setup that had been perfectly tweaked by Lyra Audio + crew over the course of 2 days.   

We spent around 6 months planning this event. Everything from the lighting (@seanclarke) to the sound, personally applying for a TEN to use the space (that’s another story altogether) and how the event would run.
 
When you have all the these other variables running alongside an event it can be difficult to lock into the set at your own party but this time everything worked out and we’re really excited to share the memory of this special night. 

Thanks to everyone that made it down and helped in anyway, it’ll always stay with us, this one <3

It’s a tale often told: Sweden’s restrictive politics vis-à-vis raves have inadvertently created a fertile world on the fringes where many of the country’s talents have pushed their craft in an act of punkish rebellion. Having spent her teenage years collecting music (a habit inherited from a dad whose love of jazz, blues and folk left a lasting mark), Philippa Pacho discovered this hidden world of illegal gatherings, before trying her hand at spinning records and landing a residency at Stockholm’s storied Under Bron back in 2012. Berlin was soon in her sights, and it’s there she found a more recent base, her career heated up, and her (and Blue Hour’s) positivesource project came to light. From Bassiani to De School to Berghain, Philippa’s still going strong a decade in; and she does more than mix tracks, she crafts stories that drive a vision of music that gets both crowds and feelings off the ground. With her ballooning raft of rave-ready bookings past and present her name is a synonym for tripped-out full-tilt techno, if you’re already a fan you know the score. Zenaari Mix 014 presents another facet of her world, it’s a dreamlike 87 minute studio mix, a trip through ambient cityscapes and appraisal of a slower, stranger side of sound, kaleidoscopic bleeps from one of techno’s leading lights.

Zenaari Mix 014 - Philippa Pacho

The long running stirrings of Surgeon (Anthony Child) and Regis (Karl O’Connor) under the conjunct British Murder Boys are not for the faint of heart. Their alleged final act came before a Tokyo crowd in 2012, but the goodbye only lasted three years and with their Amsterdam return, a reformulation of their signature industrial sound. The duo, both at their acme with little signs of descent, have together found a hybrid techno that scales high and large, bringing together thumping bass and hissing feedback for a distinctly belligerent and primal club sound. It’s not all obvious, their 2020 cover of Lou Reed’s Real Good Time Together offered a machine-inflected spin on the original, and opened the door for their debut LP Active Agents And House Boys (2024). At the heart is a provocative, sexually-charged and punkish techno that offloads bristling rhythms and defiant energy, one that’s a little more controlled and mathematical in practice. Following on from their show at Bassiani back in November comes this next mix. Bassiani Podcast 250 is an hour-long and live recorded assault: thrashing beats, crazed and bleepy arps, EBM-style shouts, a decadent and rageful call to arms and one of the most important instalments in this long running series. Back-breaking industrial techno from these two heavyweights and originators of the Birmingham sound.

Gotshell made a debut on BlueprintRecords​ in collaboration with KERO​ and appeared on Various Artists compilation chosen by Lewis Fautzi​ on Faut Section. He impressed also three times on Nachtstrom Schallplatten​ realising hard hitting EPs which one of them includes remixes of Eric Fetcher​ and Scalameriya​.
