Szikra is Kornél Kovács at his most wistfully nostalgic. Ultra-smooth keys offset by noisy lo-fi breakbeats and vocals urging you to git fucked up, like Metro Area caught up... in smoke!

All the trademark sounds of the Barnhus massive are present - off-kilter playfulness paired with the cocky swagger of a south Stockholm roughneck and an infectious pop sensibility that lingers in your head long after the needle hits the inner groove.

The so-called Bónusz Beat is actually a track in its own right, sacrificing most of the hook and the vocals for a dubby smackdown ripe for adventurous dancefloors.

Young Stockholm producer Abdulla Rashim closes out the set with a perfectly horizontal techno groove, using only elements from the original production.

Who better to kick off the inaugural release of SOBO [Sounds Of Beaubien Ouest] than Patrick Holland, best known as Project Pablo. Affiliated with the Canadian Riviera's 1080p troupe, as well as Seb Wildblood's Church and Lone's Magicwire – Holland now adds Beaubien Dream as the fourth instalment to his 12" series. The Beaubien connection comes from Montreal's Rue Beaubien, of which Holland is a resident. SOBO is headed up by fellow longstanding citizens of the Beaubien Ouest hood, Arbutus Records and their extended family – of which Holland is an instrumental part.

An initial teaser of the EP's opening "Closer" was aired publicly during Holland's BR London set back in October, as well as his NTS appearance with Lone and Gabriola earlier this year. Now, after a patient seven-month wait, we can finally wrap our mitts around it in its entirety. Alongside its two subsequent components, the track acts as a homage to Holland's home. With its distinctive Dx7 melodies, jingly percussion provided by bells (of the cow variety amongst others) and an insatiable groove growing lazily throughout – "Closer" is instantaneous happiness.

It's a certified fact that I am a child of the late 90's R&B and Hip Hop scene. Growing up, OutKast was, and still is, one of my favorite artists, having been introduced to them by friends via their ATLiens album. Everyone knows "Hey Ya" and the massive success of Speakerboxxx / The Love Below album. Diving into the rest of their catalog, you find that OutKast just did things differently. Everything from the samples they chose to flip, all the way to the spellings of title's for albums and tracks. With the scene being dominated by New York based Hip Hop groups like Wu-tang, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, the duo from Atlanta had to switch things up. SpottieOttieDopaliscious is a perfect example of this ethos. My take on this tune was to highlight the best parts, which in my opinion are the iconic horn line, Andre 3000's verse depicting the coming of age in Atlanta nightlife, and the incomparable Genesis sample. Ready for the dance floor, I hope this edit brings back memories and get's those feet tapping.
