Can we even call it dubstep any more? Both the consistently awesome Innamind label and maverick Turkish producer Emir Ongun aka Gantz have made their mark though 140bpm half-steppers with lung-crushing subs as standard – but both have constantly chipped away at the conventions of the sound, never ever getting locked into formulae. Now with the launch of Innamind's (even more) experimental offshoot, Blacklist, we're fully through the looking glass. Just one listen to Gantz's elastic tempos, sampladelic mischief and slip-sliding sound palette on this track tells you he's no longer tethered to anything but his own warped imagination. We're going to be watching Blacklist with anticipation (and a little trepidation!)

I turned left out of my flat, sun in my eye hands in pockets striding down the road kicking crisp packets and cans, dodging filth and skipping over cracks in the slabs. The late spring breeze carried the fresh damp scent of recent city rainfall, the zing of ozone tinted rust with exhaust fumes; gusts tussled through my hair and funnelled their way on up the street behind me rustling garbage and the deep green of rhododendron bushes yet to flower bright pink and deep purple. Turning left, hitting my stride I barrelled down the high street, dodging humans weaving in and out of shops, ambulating workers, chattering mothers, unpredictable excursions of children. The eccentric pauses of the old. Busses heaved free of inertia in clouds of noise whilst beggars crouched silent in vacant spaces bright eyes counting footsteps, their numbers flourishing over time. Moving downtown, passing the sleaze of sex workers distributing companionship and relief sunlight broke out across the sky. I exited long shadows cast by multi-storey commercial properties and entered the square, the fountain spilling crystal waters, momentary rainbows cascading across the dirty concrete. 
Moscow native Art Crime creates beautiful, propulsive emotionally reflective club music. Two E.P.s have currently met the world, ‘Never Look Back’ liberated via Willie Burns’ W.T. Records in the early part of last year, and the second, ‘Obsession’ has just found freedom through London’s Phonica Records. A third E.P. is paused for imminent deliverance via the mighty Créme Organisation. Mr Crime’s mix for us today pretty much satiates the full spectrum of sonic desire, from introspective effervescent house to sleazy minimal and onwards via surging dub techno to the outer regions of electronic deviation. Full spectrum dance music to permeate your auditory preceptors.

Deep Medi - ever the purveyors of supreme bassweight - have had a busy year to date. Haymakers from Kahn (Over Deh So/Abbatoir) and Gantz's Witch Blues EP rubber-stamped their intentions from early on, and bits from Jack Sparrow, Kaiju and K Man have kept the ball rolling steadily into Q3. Now Mala and co reveal their strongest hand to date.

MEDiLP011 is a collaboration of gargantuan proportions. Kahn, Commodo and Gantz sell out of stock quickly enough in their own rights; now the styles of all three get tumble-dried together in a melange of Bristolian and Middle Eastern sub-low. "Unmistakable" is just one example out of the six - an earthy deep roller anchored by a hush-hush grumble of a sample and, of course, bottommost low-end.

August 28th is the release date. Eye up the vinyl and digital versions on pre-order before it's too late.

Our first release of 2016 is a highly anticipated EP from SNR, the acclaimed Bay Area-based producer and DJ. Previously featured on "Arrival 02" and "Silk Royal Showcase 05", the three anthemic cuts that comprise this release are finally available in unmixed form.

Quite early in its progression, "Limbo" sets the euphoric tone of SNR's release, in general. A stadium-rocking groove is punctuated by a thrilling chord sequence, while a variety of other melodic and even vocal flourishes further enhance the soundscape. The breakdown features an extremely innovative, funky, and exhilarating new lead -- one that clearly demonstrates the artist's deft experience at moving the dancefloor.

The subsequent cut, "Umami", is equally radiant and club-oriented. Centering on an uplifting vocal motif, the song develops into a peak-hour stormer, courtesy of a thunderous bassline and neon-tinged lead.

Closing out the EP, a 'Deep' take on the aforementioned "Limbo" proves to be one of SNR's most intricate and unique compositions to date. A subterranean bassline immediately grounds the remix in deeper terrain, as does the heavily filtered, yet emotive piano theme. In the breakdown, we are treated to the inspiring melodic motifs of the original mix; yet, just as we anticipate an explosion of energy, the song refreshingly reverts back to a smooth, after-hours groove. All in all, SNR's EP is a veritable master class in intelligent, uplifting, and DJ-centered electronic music production.
