‘Your Move’ is the first taster from Nottingham duo RATTLE’s forthcoming third album Encircle (coming Feb 28th 2025, Upset The Rhythm), and sees the duo expand their unique experiments in rhythm, metre and tension. 

‘Your Move’ is mesmeric and boundless, hypnotic in its minimalism of double-drums and the often wordless almost tribal vocals of RATTLE’s Katharine Eira Brown.  

“The images in my head for the first half of ‘Your Move’ were water - reflecting in pools, and flowing” explains Katharine. “Then the second half is like it is stuck in an endless slow-moving cycle. The bit in-between is the flitting in-between, we wanted it to feel like a CD getting stuck. The words Your Move might be about moving in an embodied way or freedom / movement / expression, but they are also an emboldening call to action - it's your turn - what are YOU going to do, what's your next move? "

We inhabit a space somewhere on the outskirts of avant-jazz and punk rock, Dogs h8 Rats are genre defying, and full of surprises. The music is born of improvisational performances so with a little luck you'll catch the "mistakes and imperfections" now and then, or as Miles Davis once said "Don't fear mistakes, there are none" and that ethos is in clear evidence within the music of Dh8R's. The core of Dh8R's is made up of Douglas Wilkerson and Michael Grimes who collaborate with friends old and new."

UPSET THE RHYTHM is a live music promoter and record label based in London, which is collectively run with enthusiasm, commitment, a sense for adventure and a desire to have fun in the process. 

Conceived on 25 May 1977, 20:50. (T.Smith header), the Project finally coming to fruition 23 years later when the core membership of the group reconvened in exile at Nova Beaut studios in London. 

In the intervening period, The Beale appeared under various guises, most notably during the glory era when Europe was Red, Bottoms were never less than 18", the Zappa/Genesis/Floyd T-shirt was colour coded to the Trim-Trabb/Marathon/Gazelle and the Knives were hot, hot, hot. Early incarnations featured Clooney as lead singer, bringing the group close to financial and personal disaster.

Equipment was obtained using revenue from the sale of acquired Boodles goods. Early sponsorship from Jack Sharp’s was retracted following the now notorious "golf ball incident".

The Beale now operate under the guidance of Billy Jeffs’ management company in central London. Billy earned his stripes in the North Liverpool Catholic Social Club circuit and numerous walk on parts in gritty northern mid eighties docu-soaps. After a couple of spells at Her Majesty’s pleasure, Jeffs headed South to chance his arm in the cut-throat London indie circuit, where he hooked up with the group who were Sohocialising at The Groucho Club in London’s Trendy West End.

The core unit of the band record as a four-piece (drums, bass, guitar & voice), live performances taking on a life of their own with numerous members of collective making ad hoc appearances.
