Electronic Elephant presents Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr. 147

Die 147.Ausgabe unserer erlesenen Podcast - Reihe kommt diesmal vom gebürtigen Hallenser Electronic Elephant - seines Zeichens Station Endlos & Bordel des Arts Resident.

Aus Halle (Saale) in die Welt. So könnte man den Werdegang von Electronic Elephant in den letzten Jahren vielleicht am besten beschreiben. Denn was im Alter von 15 Jahren auf privaten Partys in der ostdeutschen Stadt begann, hat sich schnell zu wöchentlichen Stippvisiten in die sagenumwobensten Clubs der Nation entwickelt. Seiner Heimat ist er jedoch bis heute treu geblieben. In der mittlerweile weit über hallensische Stadtgrenzen hinaus bekannten Station Endlos fand er schließlich seinen musikalischen Heimathafen. So ist er seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 2013 als Resident mit an Deck, wenn die endlose Crew mal wieder die Weltmeere der elektronischen Musik unsicher macht. Gemeinsam mit dem kreativen Kollektiv aus Werklern, Dekorateuren und Musikern baut die Crew im nunmehr vierten Jahr Träume aus Holz und begeistert mit ihren Kreationen Festivalbesucher aus der ganzen Welt. Zu festen Stationen auf ihrer Fahrt zählen unter anderem das Feel-, Artlake- und Wilde Möhre-Festival.

Und wie das nun einmal so ist, zieht es jeden DJ – gewollt oder ungewollt –irgendwann nach Berlin. Auch Electronic Elephant konnte sich dem unwiderstehlichen Sog nicht entziehen. Mit seinen abwechslungsreichen Sets, die meist ein breites Potpourri aus Tech- und Deep House sowie Techno-Klängen bilden, konnte er dem anspruchsvollen und verwöhnten Berliner Publikum schnell seinen Stempel aufdrücken. Kein Wunder also, dass er sich bereits nach kurzer Zeit Residencies bei den etablierten Veranstaltungsreihen Bordels des Arts – ihres Zeichens beheimatet im Salon Zur Wilden Renate – und YES! im Watergate in sein Büchlein schreiben konnte.

Wer dabei heute an Electronic Elephant denkt, der kommt um den Namen Casimir von Oettingen nicht herum. Gemeinsam haben die beiden Hallenser als Aemsel & Krepel schon dutzende Festivals und Clubs im In- und Ausland bespielt. Und selbst wenn einer der beiden einmal allein hinter dem Pult steht, ist der andere meist nie weiter als eine Armlänge entfernt. Zuletzt hat sich der leidenschaftliche Musiker auch vermehrt einen Namen auf dem ausländischen Tanzparkett gemacht und mit Gigs in Moskau, Sankt Petersburg, Kopenhagen und Paris die Synapsen und Hüften der internationalen Partygänger in Wallung gebracht.

1. What do you love most about being an artist?

To be independent. The freedom to produce something, whether it’s artwork or music, based on creativity and interpretation, which is expressing my imaginative idea, my vision, my sound, my personality. Being able to move people emotionally or intellectually through my art. Expanding peoples imagination. Art for me often feels like being a child in a theme park. You can do everything, witness countless adventures and rollercoasters. Going up and down, feeling highs and lows. Falling and flying. I love to be thinking, criticizing, discussing about different aspects of life, giving people new perspectives and doing work you actually believe in.

2. Why did you choose to become an artist?

I’ve never thought about how and when I chose to be an artist to be honest. A lot of people don’t know that actually my whole life, work and daily routine is about making art and being an artist. Besides the music production and DJing, I’m about to finish my stage & costume design diploma in Berlin. My family - and so a big part of my background is thoroughly packed with artists which of course had a huge influence on my decision to become an artist myself. My teachers were angry, because I was always drawing in school lessons, my neighbors hated me for the extremely distorted guitar chords that raised their roof during day and night, the municipality hated me for painting their walls. I guess I never had to make a decision. It was a natural process.

3. Where do you get inspiration from?

First of all, i get inspired by music itself from around the world and all genres. From Moby and Whitest Boy Alive, Fink, the Parcels, Chilly Gonzales to HipHop. But also, visual art and exhibitions or traveling and the sound of cities influence me. The rattling “S-Bahn“, meeting all kinds of different people, atmospheres of urban districts. My biggest musical driver are emotions and linked memories & moments. At a certain point my inspiration bar is massively filled, and I’m overgrown by the inner need to build, compose & do art or music. But of course, also the nightlife and gigs are inspiring to me. The track “Nightmare“ for example, of my overall second release on Jeudi Records, was produced after my first rave at Berghain and I hope it expresses some of the feelings & moments I had that night. Inhaling life’s daily wonderful moments is the key.

4. You in 11 years?

Can anyone answer that? Maybe by specifying my wishes. I guess my perfect future is pretty kitsch. I want to stay true to what I am, be upright and keep on chasing my life goals. I will be producing and playing music and making art for sure, because that’s what fulfills me and makes me happy. And of course, married to my wonderful heartistcare, with two little Hofman’s on board and a good and humble life. 

5. In which ways could the scene improve in the future?

I love the colorful, liberal, glittering music scene, especially in Berlin. These days, life is moving fast. In times of political disorientation and uprising conflicts, people should be moving closer to each other and spread even more love. Fighting together, breaking down boarders, intensifying human relations and being more careful and aware of all kinds of cultures, opinions and different beings. Free of prejudices and open minded. A lot of people say music or clubs are unpolitical, but they’re not. Nightlife to me personally, taught me loads of values and lessons I wouldn’t want to miss. So be kind, respectful and care for each other.

Es war kurz nach dem Garbicz 2017 als ich bei SC über das erste Set vom Amount gestolpert bin. Angeworfen und sofort war mir klar … das geil. Als ich dann rausgefunden habe das Amount das Soukie zum Windish ist war mir alles klar. Seitdem verfolge ich das Projekt stetig. Zu meiner großen Freude macht Nayan in letzter Zeit auch mit Amount gerne Podcast und war sofort für unsere Reihe zu begeistern. 

Über Nayan könnte ich jetzt noch viel schreiben … URSL, Soukie & Windish, WUZA … aber ich lass mal lieber die Musik sprechen … viel zu warm heute.
