Als Lӕrm (hervorgegangen aus Alarm, das auf ital. all'arme „zu den Waffen” zurückgeht; auch Krach) werden Geräusche (Schalle) bezeichnet, die durch ihre Struktur (meist Lautstärke) auf die Umwelt (insbesondere Menschen) störend (Störschall), belastend oder gesundheitsschädigend wirken. Ob Geräusche als Lӕrm bewusst wahrgenommen werden, hängt besonders von der Bewertung der Schallquelle durch den Hörer ab. Trotz akustischer Gewöhnung kann Lӕrm unbewusst weiter auf Körper und Psyche wirken. Lӕrm kann den biologischen Rhythmus stören (siehe auch Tag-Nacht-Rhythmus) und Schlafstörungen verursachen bzw. fördern.
