Biography

Genuinely one of the most influential producers & DJ’s in the UK house scene from its original days in the early eighties, Ricky Morrison has earned a reputation for delivering big performances and big records and is set to release a wave of new material in 2016/17.

In 1984 Ricky Morrison began spinning at London’s infamous ‘Dance Wicked’, promoted by SOUL II SOUL, and went on to be resident at ‘HIGH ON HOPE’ with the legend that is now Norman Jay MBE. Two of the UK’s most seminal dance clubs was a hell of a start and Ricky established a name for himself within the exploding house scene that developed into the monster it is today. Ricky has gone on to play at many of the best clubs in the world, on every continent, and very much has a style of his own that stands him out from the crowd, a style that saw him play the main room at the Southport Weekender five years in a row as the event was returning to its soulful roots in the late 90’s. Also a regular at the Ministry Of Sound, Fabric & Pacha Ricky developed a sound for the big rooms these venues offered that filled the space without betraying his soulful roots. This made Ricky a valuable commodity as the US House scene took off and many promoters of previously underground events began taking over the High Street needing a DJ that could cross over the soulful sound to a bigger audience.

With long-time friend and music partner, Fran Sidoli, Ricky produced under the name M&S and was responsible for many of the ground breaking releases that helped take dance music from the back streets to the high streets including the monster hit ‘Salsoul Nugget’ which reached No 6 in the National Chart in 2001. Other big M&S Productions included their debut, ‘Keep On’ with Jay Ella Ruth & ‘Special’ by Robbie Craig, both released by Public Demand, the hugely successful ‘Don’t Give Up’ with Michelle Weeks and their timeless remix of the classic ‘Moment Of My Life’ by Bobby D’Ambrosio. The list of M&S productions and remixes is endless and they were a backbone of many of the trailblazing events that took the sound to the mainstream where it sits comfortably today however Ricky stood out equally as a DJ alongside such US heavyweights as Masters At Work, Tony Humphries, David Morales and Frankie Knuckles. 

Ricky’s style is unique and unlike the majority of the UK’s soulful house fraternity, often described as a US sound with a British twist, and anyone who’s heard him play will associate with this summary. He was so influenced by the sound coming out of the US that, in 1991, he quit his day job as a computer engineer and opened London’s legendary ‘Catch A Groove Records’ in Soho and the exclusive access this gave him to new material simply added to his effectiveness and reputation. 


Ricky has played alongside an almost comprehensive who’s who of the DJ superstars that shaped todays dance music and he is still much loved and sought after by clubs looking for a quality that is increasingly hard to find amongst the crowd. With a repertoire that includes the deeper sounds so in vogue today and the classics of yesterday, mixed in a style that is immediately recognisable as his own, Ricky Morrison is once again back in the studio making beats for where he most loves to be, behind the decks performing !

At a House party in Kingston London Pej and Aris were introduced to one another by mutual friends.We realised that there was a huge gap in the music out there. Good quality Souful, Funky and Jackin house was not being played much,so we decided to throw a House Party.Then like a snowball effect the House parties got bigger and Bigger and we out grew the house. One night we brainstormed and came up with the name Twist Head London...... We wanted to spread the love outside of the House party and create a group that encompassed Djing, Producing and Promoting.We organised our first Twist Head gig in Surbiton UK in late 2010 where we had Victor Simonelli headlining.Twist Head has grown rapidly, and with gigs starting to crop up regularly, we have been playing alongside legendary names including Paul Trouble Anderson and the likes of House legend Victor Simonelli.
This year we have played at the Black and White Balls @ Gilgamesh, Promised Land @ the Egg London, The Groove Committee with Victor Simonelli and we are also played  Ibiza in summer 2011.
Earlier in 2011, we entered one of our mixes into a competition run by Open House Recordings, Chicago (run by David Dee, Marshall Jefferson, Chauncey Alexander and Harry Dennis) to pick the best DJ mix from a handful of up and coming DJs from around the world. We won mix of the months in March/April 2011. We subsequently entered
again in the June competition and won that too. The top prize is a record deal
with Open House Recordings. We are now working on producing a track in the near
future.Whilst Djing at our friend's (DJ Marie's) 50th Birthday we got
spotted by Jazzy M (Mervyn Victor) from London 's Passion FM Radio Station (<a href="http://www.passionfmlive.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.passionfmlive.com</a>). and he asked us if we would like to play on the radio having loveds Twisthead's unique sound!
We now have our own show on Passion FM every Wednesday at 8pm - 10pm.
House music is our life and we have played through all Genres of it......bringing us to where we are now, our style being a mix between Old and New Soulful, Disco, Deep, Jackin’ and Tech House.

ARIS (Aris Papadakis)
Born and bred in Twickenham, Middlesex, UK, as a teenager back in the mid to late Eighties, I was spinning 80’s Soul / Electro and Hip Hop on a pair of prehistoric turntables and listening into various underground radio stations. During my teenage years, although club entry wasn't easy, being younger than most of the crowd, I managed to charm my way in to some of Londons biggest names in the London Underground House scene including Philip Salon's Busby's, Shoom at The Fitness Centre, Astoria, Charing Cross road to name a few!!It was about this time that I went out and bought my first pair of turntables with a pitch slider and started to trawl record shops in Soho to buy and find more music to mix together and it was at this time that my love of house music really began.
This was the beginning of something special, and my introduction to the House scene: listening and playing tunes from Marshall Jefferson, Ralphi Rosario, and Steve Hurley to name a few.I started to attend the Raves of the late 80's and early 90's including ' Sunrise , Biology and Genesis and attending Warehouse parties meeting successful Promoters and DJ's from the scene.I was listening to more and more of this style of music and how the DJ’s including Kid Batchelor,Danny Rampling,Tony Humpries and Louie Vega were blending the tunes together seamlessly. House music and the rave scene had exploded and I was going out clubbing most week nights and weekends: listening to house music, spinning tunes at private after party’s, dj-ing various underground parties including Yikes in Slough and clubs and bars in South London. By the mid nineties, my passion for house music had really taken off!
I then took a short break from dj-ing from the London circuit whilst running my Computer Solution Agency and then as the Milennium dawned, once again got the urge to start playing 'out' again!


PEJ (Pej Yavari)
I was brought up in Caversham, Berkshire, UK and bought my first vinyl back in 1985.
whilst listening to Soul and hip hop.
I went to my first illegal outdoor party somewhere in a field in the middle of
nowhere in Berkshire in 1989 and that was when I was first introduced to House music. I then started to buy House Vinyls. I bought a pair of Technics 1210's in 1991 and started bedroom Djing and went on my first trip to Ibiza in the summer of 1991 where I was introduced to the Balearic sounds listening to the likes of Alfredo and Jose Padilla. It wasn't until 1992 when I started University in London that I played my first gig at a House Party in the Student Union. I then became Vice President of the Student Union
and helped organise more House Parties. During the weekends I used to go to the
Ministry of Sound and The Gardening Club and listen to the likes of Tony Humphreys, Jeremy Healy and Danny Rampling.
When I left University in 1995 the Djing and promoting took a bit of a back burner as I concentrated on my career in the City. I still continued to buy the records and attend House nights. As a true House Head I have got the urge to get out there and spread the religion that is House Music

[dunkelbunt] aka Ulf Lindemann, born in 1979 in Hamburg (D), lives and works as a DJ, composer, producer, radio editor and mixer of spices in Vienna (A) since 2001. His name [dunkelbunt] represents diversity and the ongoing search for ever new musical fusions and styles. [dunkelbunt]´s list of cooperations with bands and musicians seems to be as extensive as the musical waters he crosses.
Being a gifted piano player himself [dunkelbunt] redevelops his own distinctive style and musical sense with every musical influence and every ethnic group he comes across.
Since 2006 Ulf Lindemann travels the world on behalf of his music: cities like New York, San Fransisco, Istanbul, Paris, Melbourne, or Kapstadt were just a few of the stops on his 2007/08 tour to promote his debut album MORGENLANDFAHRT.

MORGENLANDFAHRT is a mélange of Dub, Reggae, Klezmer, Jazz, Electronics, Trip Hop and Break Beats - woven with a Balkan twist. Numerous co-operations with both Viennese and international musicians from the Balkan and Klezmer scenes have enriched many of the tracks on the album, namely performers like 5nizza, Fanfare Ciocarlia, Amsterdam Klezmer band, Harry Stojka, Östblocket, MC Killo Killo, Orient Expressions and many more.

MORGENLANDFAHRT is also a result of Ulf´s move from Hamburg to Vienna in 2001. Initially inspired by the rich electronic music scene in Vienna, he quickly encountered the special Viennese musical diversity ranging from the traditional music from the Balkan to the Orient. This historically grown “Melange” of cultural influences from the near and far eastern neighbours has ever since been a specialty of Vienna which gives it an open-minded and pulsating character. Something you can inhale everyday at Vienna’s famous Naschmarkt with it’s babel-esque mix of languages, foods and goods to buy.

It was this side of Vienna, which let Ulf discover his second passion: he mixes and blends exquisite spices from India, Africa, South America and Europe. Both following old recipes and inventing his own he creates Berbere (Ethiopia), Ras el Hanout (Morocco), Coffespiece, Tandori Masala (India), Cinq-epices (China), bread herbs (Austria), herbal salt and many more.

In a certain way cooking and composing seems to be something very similar to [dunkelbunt]. Basically he simply uses different ingredients: herbs or instruments, sounds or colours, taste, smell, or look. It all comes down to the search for an harmoniuos whole. Nuances will come with the seasoning. Food is both – one fort he body, the other fort he soul.

Although the musical essence rests upon the South-eastern corners of Europe, sounds from all around this planet are to be enjoyed: from Vienna to the Balkans, through Anatolia and the Middle East, India, North Africa, not to mention South America, to Jamaica and straight to the swinging North American Thirties.

Answering the question how he himself would describe his sound Lindemann says:

„The world offers a breathtaking plurality of music. It wouldn´t cross my mind to settle for only one style. When DJing I am travelling around the world together with my audience carried on by the music. Timelessly we are dancing through Countries and Continents getting drunk with the infinite beauty of the music. I consider myself an intermediary searching for soulful music and its magic to share it with other people.”

Electric Elizabeth was born on November 1st 2015 when the Noisevember project started that year. They've had fun learning how to investigate sounds using audacity and looking forward to learning how to plug things in and not cause explosions.
