To walk along the mystic road of dreams
And catch some fleeting echoes from the past
Or search the memory abyss for inspiration
And capture those twilight memories fading fast.
To lean awhile upon the fence of time
And ask some abstract notions to remain
Or drift along those eery doldrum ways
And draw the blinds on sanity and pain.
To gather up poetic streams of thought
From valleys of echantment and of tears
And flow them like one great Atlantic tide
To cleanse the mind of miseries and fears.
To rest a time upon the rock of myth
And forget for now the cruelty and the pain
That in our daily news we hear about
But never can console or loose the chain

I'm hesitant to add to Papa's perfect summary of it being easier to explain poetry with a poem. I do agree with what I understand so far from his words. It truly is a subconscious practice. This is another wonderful pre AI opinion which appreciated the feeling and the subconscious thought flow you find true poetry in. A machine can never feed you your subconscious thoughts. A machine cannot deliver the practice and focus you need to tap that subconscious consistently. Only time and your mind, body & spirit can do that
