After 3 albums based purely on synthesizers, the danish duo take a leap by adding live drums & guitars to their latest album. The expansion of drums adds a natural 70’s groove, maintaining a spontaneous vibe that also soaks into the analogue synths of modular wizard Kristoffer Ovesen. The improvised sessions were later honed, edited & layered, bringing forth the best of both spontaneous ideas, as well a multi-dimensional approach bringing a new depth to Videodrones extensive cinematic undercurrent of sounds. With the addition of echo & reverb drenched guitars, the duo is tapping into sounds in new realms yet strangely familiar.

Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch returns with a brilliant new album for FatCat’s 130701 imprint. 'Ravage’ is the London-based French pianist / composer’s first standalone album since 2018’s ‘Époques’, following which she has been busy building a name for herself scoring an increasingly high-profile series of films. A powerful, deeply personal album that charts the process of grieving for a parent, Emilie describes ‘Ravage’ as “the most intimate and personal project I've created”.

Recorded largely at home in London over the lockdown winter of 2020/21, the composition process began way back towards the end 2018 with the title track, which Emilie felt compelled to write during a period of intense grief after losing her father. “It was a way for me to express and process the emotions I was going through, especially as I found it impossible to verbalise, or even tell people. It felt a rather solitary experience because we rarely talk about the loss of a parent with whom one had a fraught relationship, and those extremely layered and complex feelings toward that parent can be hard to explain.”

Nottingham psych-pop specialists Midnight Rodeo share brand new effort ‘The Big Melt’.

Bursting onto the scene earlier this year with tantalising debut cuts ‘Now You’re Gone’ and ‘Shootout Sunday’, the group’s swaggering homage to 60’s lo-fi garage rock has already drawn influences from the likes of Allah-las, Juniore, La Luz and Pink Floyd, with enigmatic frontwoman Maddy Chamberlain’s alluring vocals nobly supported by a densely layered, atmospheric sound that combines slick psychedelia with Morricone-esque soundscapes.

Detailing their release, the six-piece revealed: “We were once a bit out of sorts walking through town and accidentally joined a Brazilian drum parade. I'm sure it was entirely coincidental timing, but we felt like that dog who thinks the parade is for them. I feel like we tried to recreate that feeling of finding yourself lost in an awakening world within a mundane day, and brought in Sam’s (keys, synths) Dad & brother to help with all the additional percussion to give it a Latin feel. It’s a big old good time party tune”.

With significant praise already from the likes of So Young Magazine, Clash, The Independent, Rough Trade and Under The Radar, and live slots ticked off alongside acts including The Bug Club and FEET, Midnight Rodeo will be heading out on their own debut headline UK tour this November to coincide with their single release.

Speaking ahead of their latest release, frontman Seb revealed: “This song is about a dream I had, where my friend Ted told me he didn’t want to be my friend anymore because I was getting too drunk and making a fool of myself. When I told him about this dream he told me that maybe I shouldn’t drink so much because I do make a fool of myself. I’ve been in the shame cube ever since”.
