You couldn't see anything in front of you; the darkness shrouded the trees and any living organisms inhabiting them. By day these woods felt magical but at night it felt as though something sinister were afoot – as though there were unidentified creatures waiting to pounce in the shadows. These speculations would remain as such for those who'd been foolish enough to enter had never returned to tell the tale.

Bristol-based composer and audio-visual artist Surgeons Girl caught our attention with her EP for Livity Sound last winter. Now she follows that up with an outing for London's Inside Out Records titled 'The Empress Moss': four tracks that showcase her knack for creating enchanting sonics. Coming from a classical music background, she marries this approach with her passion for analogue hardware and love of ambient and techno sounds, inviting Ombra International boss Curses to take on the remix.

VOX LOW - STAY AWAY

Human Endeavour is the newest addition to Ransom Note Records’ family of sub-labels. Curated and run by Ransom Note Editor, and one half of DJ duo Kiara Scuro, Rosie Ama Cain, the label will be a “space for artists who are exploring the dark, deep and hypnotic corners of the musical spectrum.”

For the inaugural outing, which is out now, six artists have come together for ‘Trains Of Thought’: a Various Artists EP that gives a window into some of the sounds, styles and names that you’ll be hearing on the label in the future.

Berlin vocalist and producer ANGST vor GRETA brings things to a close with the psychedelic Cold Wave of ‘Infinity’. Atmospheric pads and an eerie synth line are punctuated by crisp percussion and a steady beat, while ghostly wolf howls and Greta’s sultry, whispered spoken word evoke an overall sense of mystique.

Her track appears alongside contributions from Albino Sound, Reda Saiarh, Double Helix, Anatolian Weapons and Nandele, which span everything from UK techno, acid post-punk and EBM to cold wave and new beat.

Human Endeavour, a name inspired by a mathematics talk penned by Rosie’s late father, which drew its own inspiration from quotes by Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking, works on the belief that as long as there’s life there will be creative endeavour, and that no matter what you create, the action of bringing something into the world is an achievement in itself.

Four new slabs of ZillaMusik heading in all possible demonic directions–hell’s bells chiming for an eternal assassin with teeth for eyes (“The Corinthian”); slow-mo sleigh rides through the night with frequent Girls Chat Room collaborator Babystar (“Yes She Dub”); an acid ode to a girl who never quite was (“Dora”); and a computer club call to arms for Nonexistence as lifestyle (“How I Became Invisible”). AND: Three remixes from freakish fellow travelers Flore, Lo Kindre, and Sara Dziri extending the Zilla sound into all possible moods, speeds, WAYS OF BEING.

PREMIERE : Luca Dell'Orso & Justine Forever - Plant Life (D'Oro UNLMTD 04)

Javi Golo is no outsider when it comes to the underground electronic music scene. The seasoned Spanish artist has been fighting the good fight for quite some time now – since 1984, to be more precise. Being on the road for such a spell turns the mission of sticking to one single genre virtually impossible if you are a true music lover. House, Techno, Trance, combined with Disco, Synthwave, Hi-NRG, resulted in the eclectic and rich sonority he has been dedicating his efforts for the last couple of years with well-received works published on vital labels such as Espacio Cielo, Logia Records, Banshees, and NEIN – to which he returns now to deliver a horrifying and daunting EP: “Dracul” presents itself with four shadowy originals, a couple of fangs, and a gory remix by rising Mexico-based producer Andrea Acosta.

For the track we chose to premiere – the most beautiful of the release, by the way –, JG Outsider opens the tomb of his darkest influences in order to deliver a stunning Cold-Wave-meets-EBM cut with a powerful but sober bearing. The jumping bassline allied with the ghostly pad and the ethereal synth lead supply the perfect ambience for the mesmerizing vocal hooks and deliver the perfect closing theme for a great EP.
