◾How did you come up with your dj name: TanKir contains the first three letters of my first name (Tanya), then my last name (Kiryutina)! 

◾How and when did you get into djing: In 2017 I moved to Atlanta and started learning how to DJ straight away. I was a huge Anjuna and Solarstone classics fan, then delved deeper and evolved my sound over the course of many musical journeys of SoundCloud mixes, WREK Atlanta 91.1 FM radio shows, and local gigs (Odyssey After, Believe Music Hall, Edgewood Speakeasy, East Atlanta Treehouse, +). Around 2020, I began streaming on Twitch.tv/djTanKir and exploring a wider variety of sounds, settling with my true love of psychedelic trance. Completely infatuated, I ventured out of my cave and brought various psytrance moods to Sound Not Found, Emerald Summers Presents, private events, and local burner and flow artist meet-ups.

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: My deep, hypnotic trance focus is inspired by John 00 Fleming's productions, DJ sets, and record labels. Dohm’s productions currently have my favorite sound (~ morning forest psytrance). Twitch DJs are a huge source of inspiration, and I couldn't thank Psyfaun, Chai_Baba, and Devistatix enough for getting me into the darker "psydes" of psytrance. Local producer Drew Yates inspired me to start my 💗bA$$✨Kittie💗 alias, from which I love playing trippy, sexy, & chill wubz & dubz.

◾Describe your sound as a DJ: Psychedelic trance-focused, multi-genre DJ. I play Twitch sets specific to a certain vibe or journey and naturally cycle through the seasons, following my heart. These sounds come from worldwide swamps, forests, oceans, mountains, and deserts in the day and night, be bright or dark, emotional or minimal, chaotic or structured. I love the extremes and in-betweens of 40 to 250 bpm, with carefully curated selections from each wonderful rabbit hole of music searching. If you love words, some recent favorite terms include: Goa, Suomisaundi, Forest Psy, Dark Psy, Zenonesque, Psytech, Psychill, Minimal, Deep Tech, Deep Dubstep, Organic House, Hypnotic Techno, Progressive Trance, Liquid D&B, Psycore, HiTech- oops, that escalated quickly! xD
 
◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist: This year is looking plenty exciting! I plan to continue playing solo sets (current record 13 hours) and raid trains (virtual events) on Twitch.tv/djTanKir, keep bringing psytrance out to Atlanta, and hopefully start playing out-of-state. I'll be getting into producing soon as I am feeling that tug to create psytrance getting stronger!

Starlight Thursdays Episode 157. Welcoming Shane Dee to the series. I’ve personally been really excited to get to know Shane over the phone recently. We still haven’t met in person and I gotta say I’m really looking forward to hearing him play live. He’s been into rave culture for over two decades and has DJed at a bunch of parties and festivals such as Meltdown (Dallas), Afterlife (Dallas), Fire! (Dallas), Epyklandia (Las Vegas), Regional Burning Man events (Nevada) Trance Arson (Las Vegas), and Ritual (Las Vegas) just to name a few. Shane currently resides in Billings MT and has been getting involved with the scene out there as well as other parts of the state. I gotta say he mixes Techno in ways that just feels so right.

Why did you get into it? 
Fell in love with it after learning how to spin vinyl while stationed overseas. I Was fortunate enough to meet a guy from Detroit that’s big brother was really big in the Detroit techno scene and ended up giving me a bunch of crates full of old techno records, and I bought a pair of Technic 1200’s and Been at it ever since lol. 

What inspires you about DJing and electronic music? 
New Music, Old music. Music!! People. The DJ culture is filled with some amazing people! I am very grateful to have met some really special people that have inspired me throughout the years.

Can you tell us a little bit about your mix? 
“Welcome to Rave mountain.” The mix starts out with everyone approaching the mountain and everyone gets excited as the music gets more intense as they get closer to rave mountain. Otherworldly. Heavy, Dark, Trance vibes.
