Piano Groove III

I recently did a guest mix for Miss Efemby’s show The Techno Diaries, where I was playing mostly tech house and techno tracks, so wanted to make something like the kind of tracks I was playing during that set (it’s more like the stuff I used to make under previous guises).  

Made mostly using analog gear (mainly various Korg Volcas tbh), although the plucky synth sound that plays throughout most of the track was from one of Ableton’s synths, I created MIDI for the bassline and accidentally clicked on something in Live...it sounded good to me, so I used it anyway.  

The title stems from a conversation I was having with someone, but she had a bit of a mental block and couldn’t remember a particular word, she was kind of looking at me saying “what’s that word?...what’s the word?”, so when I was playing around with the vocal samples, making them sound pretty unintelligible, that kind of became the title.

Contraband Run!

Brand new track from the upcoming 2021 release "Beyond the Shadow". Following on from my 2020 release "I am Become Death (Destroyer of Worlds)". WHich was heavily inspired by the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has affected us as a population and ME as a person...reflecting how each of us has become very much "like, Death itself".

Beyond the Shadow, although still inspired by the Pandemic, is approaching the subject from a different angle...pulling inspiration from the more emotive side of things rather than the "Bluntly Bleak, Cold and Hopeless".

Drawing more inspiration from artists such as 65DaysOfStatic, Fuck Buttons along with the traditional Industrial groups and other Post- Rock/Electronic Rock bands which i grew up listening too and growing a large amount of inspiration from....

To date i have a tendency to write at least 1/2 tracks per LP that draw inspirations from 65DaysOfStatic/Nobuo Uematsu/Thom Yorke etc etc, i.e tracks that are rich, emotive & melancholic in terms of harmony & melody....contrasting with the more bluntly aggressive/noisy and bleak tracks on the LP.

I am still yet to decide excatly how the LP will end up sounding/be structured etc. But this new track marks a change in so much that there is quite obviously still the melodic/harmonic components that sound very RadioHead like. But this track is also inspired by the rhythmic side of things aswell, specifically 65DaysOfStatic/Fuck Buttons/Frog Pocket and other Post Rock/BreakBeat artists like Aphex Twin.

A Stitch In Time DEMO

Everything happens for a reason. When I was 19 I was waiting for the train to take me from Gothenburg in Sweden to somewhere - I don't remember where... A homeless old man started talking to me. He told me of his life and why he ended up like like this. It was a sad story of loss, a broken heart and of making the wrong decisions. But although he was in a miserable state he still had hope. He said that it was something life was trying to tell him and that he had to learn and figure out what it was - untill then, he'd have to go on living like this. And if he couldn't figure it out in this life, he would become a wiser man in the next.... Before we parted he looked at me with his tired eyes and said - never give up on your dreams! I've been carrying that moment with me ever since.
