Rare Objects On Earth

The basic tracks for some of these songs were scattered through other music I had recorded over the last ten years.  Quarantine has given me the time to hear some of this music with fresh ears. In most instances dozens of instrument tracks were stripped away to find some forgotten core that made me nod or smile.  Then I started again.  All new recording has been done since the start of lock down and tries to put a sound on the subtle dislocation of a global disaster that is mostly (for me) expressed in my daily life as an absence, a taking away rather than a presence; a distantly felt thing.

The Exile's Kingdom

Hello again - it's been some time since my last upload. Troubled times, we're living in... I hope you guys are all safe and sound considering the circumstances!
The last couple of months I was rehearsing a new, fairly longer track, which is ready to be uploaded soon, involving several parts and new modules. So stay tuned!
Meanwhile I visited @Goldkalb (check out his channel too!). We did this all-modular live-jam on his rig, where we tested out the possibilities of his new keystep pro. We didn't really care about the mix or anything, but we had lots of fun!!

The Haiku Foundation is always a rich source of inspiration. I immediately fell in love with this poem by Choshi, included in R.H. Blyth “Japanese Satirical Verses“. For those of you who are not familiar with the difference between haiku and senryu: the former tends to be about nature, while the latter refers to some aspect of human nature or emotions. Their structure is similar.

I couldn’t find any information on Choshi online, so here’s what R.H. Blyth said about our haiku of the week:

“We have here a clear example of the difference between haiku and senryu. The sight of the sea in the early morning makes someone wake up a fellow traveller. But what remains in our minds is not the sea glittering in the morning sunshine, but the shaking and awakening of the traveller by someone who hardly knows him from Adam. We feel the kinship of the men through that one touch of nature.”
