Now I love it even more,
As a moment or three makes me feel heard.

Odysseus yearns for Penelope.
No, she’s not dead.

The same word is always used 
When Odysseus sings about his lover
“Waiting,” he says, in a desperate tune.

Always prolonging that word
So I started to think;
About what I saw in the repetition 
Pushed my mind to the brink.

What was he waiting for?
I hadn’t fully got it.
Intimacy? A kiss? Her smile?
To understand it took me longer than I’d want to admit.

Little did I know,
I’d get a Penelope of my own.
To show me the meaning of the lyric.
To prove Odysseus wasn’t alone.

Because I don’t necessarily want a “thing.”
Not a specific action from her.
It’s actually quite simple…
But it caused my heart to stir.

Odysseus was waiting.
Waiting indeed.
He wanted Penelope as a whole.
So much so that it was this he would plead,

“Penelope’s waiting, for me…”
That’s what he sung.
And I found myself singing it too.
But with a different name and note I wrung.

I don’t want her hug.
And I swear I’m not baiting.
All I need is to be next to her.
But until then, I’ll be waiting.
