Al has written and produced the music for some of the BBC's most stunning marine, environmental, wildlife and adventure films. He is also known for his work on many documentaries that have explored emotive and highly charged subjects, often involving key moments in art and history.

But there’s another side to the story - equipped with mobile recording gear and guitars, Al creates new music during rambling voyages – exploring coasts, islands and the stretches of open sea between them. Taking inspiration from the ocean, coastal cultures  and road trips, he shapes a music that reflects a search for the real and the raw.

Down To The Sea In Ships

Al's floating studio during these voyages is a 29ft yacht he sails with his wife, filmmaker Jenny Jones. During their summer cruises, he plays and records guitar, surf, sea birds and dolphins, as well as atmospheres, conversations overheard, street musicians, marching bands, church bells – anything that crosses his auditory horizon.  These recordings provide a fund of musical ideas that evolve into albums and film soundtracks.
While Jenny is skipper of the boat, she is also a film director, and with Al on board as composer they have collaborated on films for the BBC, Channel 4 and Animal Planet – their favourite subject seems to be sharks, most spectacularly, the Great White.

Al is now making his music available to a wider public, outside the context of his broadcast films.
Bringing together his film soundtracks and brand new recordings in a series of linked themes.
His first release, The Living Soul is a journey into memory and place, an exploration of universal themes: the oceanic unconscious, love, loss, and redemption. Personal, reflective and emotional, this album is played out with acoustic instruments, and features the hauntingly beautiful vocals of Abbie Lathe.

Rob Johnson is a musician.

His debut release Upon a Painted Ocean was labelled as "an instrumental album of positively momentous strength” (REVOLT) and featured guest vocals from Mary Spender and Max Bemis of Say Anything. It was touted at the time as "a modern Tubular Bells" (OVERPLAY).

Throw The Sun Into The Sea was his second album and delved further into an exploration of instrumental music and the ways in which this could be communicated towards an audience. In order to illustrate this he made 10 short films to accompany the record, releasing the album as a complete audio/visual experience.

Rob’s first two albums were produced and mixed by Geoff Swan (credited work includes; Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Paul McCartney) and mastered by Jon Astley (Led Zeppelin, The Who, ABBA, George Harrison).

After nearly dying from a life-threatening illness in 2017, 2018 saw the release of Other Futures featuring the song Empires which reached the semi-final in the instrumental category of the ‘Song of the Year’ contest judged by Dave Grohl, Steven Tyler, Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys.

Johnson has been featured as an ‘artist to watch’ in Acoustic Magazine and has performed regularly at the London Acoustic Guitar Night, as well as playing at the London Acoustic Guitar Show at the Kensington Olympia. He has worked with American EDM duo The Beat Kidz, contributing guitar parts to their remix of Madness by MUSE - which received regular airplay on KROQ in the United States. 

2019 will see the release of a further two albums from Rob Johnson Music – one entirely acoustic, one electronic – his exploration of instrumental music has only just begun.

It was the summer of ’14, when Joshua McCleskey and Kaley Morlock moved to the sleepiest beach town in Southern California. They weren’t Coral Bells then, but a couple of folk musicians from Oklahoma who took their chances on a town they had never been to. Their exodus led them to Imperial Beach, a place that unexpectedly became an integral part of Coral Bells’ identity. Six months after visiting, longtime friend and mandolin player, Jimmy Schmitz, relocated to form the trio that was frequently found at farmer’s markets and busking in Ocean Beach. It wasn’t long before they serendipitously met Bostonian native Matt Rogan, another Imperial Beach musician and transplant. After several rooftop bonfire jam sessions, they knew they had to get organized enough to play real shows in front of people.  

Vocalist, Kaley Morlock reflects, "I’m not sure if it’s because our 'folk-and-roll' sound is so niche in Southern California or the fact that fewer and fewer musicians play acoustic instruments these days. I do believe our music has a certain magic to it, because we have collected a wonderful, devoted following to whom we are forever grateful".

Coral Bells was nominated for the 2019 San Diego Music Awards, and have been featured on KPBS, NPR, 91x, Palomar College Radio, NBC SoundDiego, SD Voyager Magazine, and the SD Tribune. Coral Bells released their second EP "the treehouse tapes" in February 2020 with sound engineer, Scott Seader, and Nashville-based, Moses Mastering.

I would extremely appreciate it.
So I can invest in older (obsolete/outdated) HiFi philips heaphones (I even repair some because I use them as studio heapphones) or computer and audio hardware to keep going and to buy only the necessary stuff to produce the best.I also need new focal speaker replacements for producing.Some are damaged.

Recently I have started workiong on other styles of music like RNB and some other projects.At least 16 of 'm.

Besides these projects,I am re-mastering my older comprehensive ones to meet the loudness and quality standards of these days.
Not only these standards but also mine.They were a bit harsh and weak in bass (punch), richness and also needed a lot of tweaking on the instruments, DSP's and frequency's because there was a lot of interference and as I call it pollution of overlapping instruments and frequency's,increasing the total volume and chaos unnecessarily.

My remastered tracks are pushing your vu meters to max.Don't be bothered by this.It is very difficult with so much information at once to reach acceptable loudness.I can assure you that the level of distorten is very low.
If you here any distortion there is a big possiblity it's because of your amplifiers input sensitivity.or There can be a problem with Soundcloud's compression that is used.Or it can occur that a bassdrum's distorted top layer interferes intentionally though the  mid and high frequences of other instruments. 
Why such a gain is needed ? To meet commercial loudness standards.And people are very fond of crappy wireless bleutooth headphones with crappy limited amplifiers in it.
Alle the correct mastered tracks will show "ARM" as artist name.

Most quality wired headphones have a retail price of at least 100-150 euro's 
Or decent open air audio equipment. 
With open air I mean quality floorstanding speakers made out of (ply)wood and a decent powerfull amplifier with a strong and fast damping capability.
It would help a lot to play it in a as dry as possible room or outside in the open.Or Bookshelf speakers subbed by a quality woofer.
I am personally more fond of high quality full range speakers.You can multiply them to increase loudness or SPL and maintain quality.especialle with horns in it.

My father, George Willis "Bill" Kellington, sang in the Portland Metropolitan opera as a young adult.  He used to sing, Danny Boy to me when I was a wee tad.  My mother sang on the radio starting at about 4 years of age.  I remember enjoying singing with my mother while we did the dinner dishes.  I have always loved music and my main influences were the popular songsters of the 50s and 60s.   I started playing the guitar at around age 20.  I should have had lessons.  My wife, Sharon, taught me basic chords and I learned some more  after that.  I've been writing my own songs since 2003 and I am thoroughly enjoying the process.   I still have my day job practicing law, but if time would permit I would be making music all the time.

     My favorite music site is Soundcloud because it enables comments and reposting and the ability to hear innovative, magnificent and magical, productions of brilliant independent musicians from around the globe.

     I have a home studio with a couple of Yamaha guitars, and a Yamaha MX49  keyboard.  I use AKG mics and Sonar software.  I like to get a lyrics idea, select guitar chords, then prepare lead sheets.  As I play and sing the tentative song, improvements in the rhythm, lyrics and melody almost suggest themselves.

     For me, a song is a project.  It can nearly always be improved with the passage of some time and replaying and singing.   With a melody in my head, I practice singing the song.  Adjustments to clarify the meanings of lyrics also suggest adjustments in the rhythm and the melody.  When I have an acceptable guitar and vocal track recorded, I can then add bass, percussion and other instrument tracks.  Finally, I can add backup vocals or whistling, or both.   I have about a dozen songs in process at any given time.  I will let the songs in progress settle in for a few days or weeks or months.  If I seem to be stuck on a particular song I will leave it for a while and get back to singing it.  Fresh ideas or approach come easier then and usually I get unstuck.

     I find I have to be careful that I not over correct.  Sometimes I'll find that a betterment wasn't really a betterment over time and I'll go back and resurrect the older lyric that then seems superior.

     My dream is to produce songs that have the power to move the emotions.  I find my songs are better if in the process I am moved to tears myself and unless I am moved by the sentiment of a song I don't consider it finished or acceptable.  I have to really feel what I am writing/singing.  I hope you like my music and I would be delighted if it moved you five degrees. ;-)

Ocean Bells is a brand new project born from the meeting of Alberto Mariotti (King of the Opera, Samuel Katarro) and Lorenzo Cipriani (Vinylistic, Wagooba), two composers and performers from the many creative abilities that combine music and visual arts creating a poetic vision of imagined worlds.
