ONG NAMO, Snatam Kaur & Mirabai Ceiba & Diplomatic Phantom II(VISIONASI REMIX)

This is a mix of what I'm calling Brazilian devotional music. The vast majority of the country is Catholic, but the Christian faith is often fused with a deep nature awareness. It's hard to generalize a country as large and diverse as Brazil, but certainly the nature here is quite strong and I feel like much of the population is proud of that. The songs on this mix are sung by a sub-culture of people who spend a lot of time in nature and have cultivated a strong sense of connection with the earth. Many of these songs are sung in a mantra like way, like devotional hymns, often singing praises to nature, sometimes specifically evoking a nature spirit, or Orisha, like Yemanja, Oshun, or Nana. These names have come from African religions like Yoruba. A really interesting fusion has come about between African, indigenous, and Christian faith. Brazil is an incredibly diverse place and a rich culture. I hope I was able to convey just a small but special part of it.
