Century Of Bad Degree

I wrote the poetry for this song years ago when i was feeling down and low. Then adapted it to this hopeful tune recently. This poetry and music is mostly about having faith and giving your best shot at something. Someone once told me that human beings are like a raw lump of iron, it can be turned from something crude and ugly into a beautiful piece of metalwork. Yet, you have to go through tough processes, from fire to water and back on the anvil and the same with our personal tribulations, we need to give everything our best shot.

The Mourning Flame

The isle of Arran is a magnificent place. A local told me a tall tale about a soldier that came with Robert the Bruce to Lochranza when Bruce was gathering his strength there. The soldier returned to his home only to find it burnt to the ground and a fresh grave with a cross, of his dear wife, lying beneath the pines that are so common on the island. This is a song about them. Although it is, a really tall tale.

It’s a song about tough days and getting through them. Inspired by Johnny Cash and his gritty storytelling, stripped down songs and vocal honesty. It’s got a story in it, from conversations I heard as a Bartender. Tough stories. Sad stories. Real stories.

Hi folks, my name is Marty and thank you for listening to me. 

Two years ago I started posting songs on SoundCloud so that my grandmother can listen to me play when I’m away, it’s surreal that these songs are now on Spotify and other major streaming platforms. All recorded in my room with some sub par equipment. 

Grandma passed away earlier this year. This album is a dedication to her. And a thank you note for all the support I received from my friends and family in life and in music. 

I’m 23 years of age. I grew up in Moscow, was raised in the UK and spent the last years working as a chef, Bar man and waiter. 

Country music, has had a special place in my heart since my early teens, I didn’t grow up with it, but the songs that I chose to listen to shaped me to be who I am today. 

I don’t claim to be a musician, or country for that matter, but I do put my heart into the poetry for these songs. And I hope you can find something in these songs. Something that can help.
