Future City Punks is a collaborative project/duo comprising of DJ/Producers Traxion and Sam In Space, hailing from Melbourne Australia, with a sound that blends indie dance with various disco, electro, punk, and rock influences. Future City Punks creates a unique sonic experience that is new, edgy and infectious.

Their take on Front 242’s gritty, industrial post-punk anthem “Animal: Gate” stays true to the 1993 record whilst adding a chuggy combination of bass and guitar to accentuate the percussive groove of the original. With some explosive drops that will shatter the dance floor, this edit is primed for any arsenal.

With their gritty yet refined style, Future City Punks have several original releases on the horizon and will continue to make their mark on the indie dance scene.

This piece was created with a custom Python script I developed. The script generates MIDI sequences based on a set of parameters that control structure, rhythm, mutation, and rests. Instead of producing a fixed pattern, it creates evolving variations: some notes remain stable while others gradually shift, making the music feel alive.
The tempo was deliberately kept slow, giving space for the mutations and rests to create a sense of openness and breathing room. The rests introduce silence as a musical element, so the phrases feel organic rather than mechanical. Mutation adds gentle unpredictability, allowing the sequence to drift into new shapes over time while still staying grounded around a tonal center.
For the sound design, the MIDI was routed into VCV Rack, where I used four oscillators as voices. Each oscillator contributed a slightly different texture, creating layers of harmonic movement that interact with one another. The result is an evolving ambient soundscape — calm, spacious, and subtly shifting — where algorithmic structure meets the warmth of modular synthesis.
