Группа основана в конце 2012 года в городе Санкт-Петербурге. Основой концепции стало сочетание напористого акустического звучания, богатой мелодики, личностных текстов в традиции русской поэзии Серебряного века. В звуковой палитре используются нестандартные инструментальные сочетания и множество вокальных стилистик от нежного вкрадчивого пения до практически экстремального вокала. Своей миссией группа видит сочинение «музыки для человека» - без вездесущего пост-модернистского сарказма, без нравоучений, без политики — песни для живых и чувствующих.

The Coral Sea is the music project and moniker of singer songwriter Rey Villalobos.

A Los Angeles native, Villalobos’ family originates from two different sides of the globe, México and Italy. Early on he fell in love with the Chopin nocturnes while taking classical piano lessons and still considers the nocturnes an influence today. Starting out as a drummer, Villalobos next began writing and singing and emerged with debut album “Volcano and Heart” and The Coral Sea project. 

Mastering fragile romantic nostalgia, Villalobos' music presents an intimate portrait of hauntingly sentimental and unreserved songs echoing from another era.
