This was unavoidable for me.  Politics aside, I think we can all agree that the mounting innocent victims of global conflict are a tragedy beyond measure.  These casualties should not be ignored as we sit in the comforts of our cushy little lives.

Rising temperatures, melting ice caps, devastating wildfires, and catastrophic storms are no longer distant warnings—they’re our reality. If we don’t act now, we risk losing everything. This is a call to action. We must save Planet Earth before it’s too late.  

The science is clear. Human activity—burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial pollution—is driving climate change at an unprecedented rate. The Earth’s temperature is rising faster than ever, and the consequences are dire. Sea levels are rising, threatening coastal cities and communities. Species are going extinct at an alarming rate. As Greta Thunberg said, *“No one is too small to make a difference.”*  

The fight against global warming is also a fight for justice. The communities hit hardest by climate change are often those who have contributed the least to the problem. Low-income neighborhoods, indigenous peoples, and developing nations are bearing the brunt of the crisis. We must stand with them, amplify their voices, and ensure that the solutions we pursue are equitable and inclusive.  

This is our moment to rise up and protect the planet. We owe it to ourselves, to future generations, and to every living creature that calls Earth home. As the poet Wendell Berry said, *“The Earth is what we all have in common.”* It’s our shared responsibility to safeguard it.  

So let’s get to work. Let’s plant trees, clean up our oceans, and push for policies that prioritize the planet over profit. Let’s educate ourselves and others, and inspire action in every corner of the globe. Let’s show the world that we care, that we’re willing to fight, and that we won’t back down.  

The time to act is now. The Earth is crying out for help, and we must answer the call. Together, we can turn the tide. Together, we can save our planet.

I wrote this song 15 years ago for close friend and guitarist Elmer Stone. Elmer and I have collaborated on three songs on Soundcloud but this one is purely a tribute to him and the friendship we have shared for the past thirty-plus years.  It is also a memorial for his wife Bonnie who he lost two years ago. She was a core contributor to his music, life partner, and his best friend.
I am indebted to Mike Fox and Axel Meningen for taking my rough demo of the song and making it a broadcast quality production. I used to work in a municipal council depot in the late 1980’s and met some brilliant characters. Ronnie was one of them - he used to walk 3 miles each way to work/home. He had interesting views on life! It’s a bleak folk song but with some humour thrown in. They all used quite fruity/earthy expressions and I wanted to capture some of that. I hope you enjoy it.
