This is a track I uploaded a while back and somehow made it private by accident.  This is more of a melancholy bit of upbeat.  Like grasping on to something great at a heavy down time. It's hard to explain how this particular track comes across, but I truly hope you enjoy it!

Living in the mountains of Oaxaca, Capulálpam de Méndez, has deeply inspired this piece. The track opens with the sounds of wind and birds, weaving you into the heart of nature's embrace. Intricate guitar melodies then take center stage, exploring themes of balance and fragility within the natural world. The music reflects on the enduring spirit of ancient civilizations, a testament to resilience, but also pays homage to the people of Capulálpam de Méndez who have become my adopted family here in Mexico. Their warmth and kindness are a constant source of inspiration. The piano serves as a roadmap for this musical journey, while the guitar takes the lead on the melody.

Viviendo en las montañas de Oaxaca, Capulálpam de Méndez, me ha inspirado profundamente esta pieza. La pista se abre con los sonidos del viento y los pájaros, entrelazándote en el corazón del abrazo de la naturaleza. Las intrincadas melodías de guitarra toman entonces el centro del escenario, explorando temas de equilibrio y fragilidad dentro del mundo natural. La música reflexiona sobre el espíritu perdurable de las civilizaciones antiguas, un testimonio de la resistencia, pero también rinde homenaje a la gente de Capulálpam de Méndez que se ha convertido en mi familia adoptiva aquí en México. Su calidez y amabilidad son una fuente constante de inspiración. El piano sirve como hoja de ruta para este viaje musical, mientras que la guitarra toma la delantera en la melodía.

À Des Années - Lumière

Ah, the people we meet, and cross paths with, in this life…. So many experiences. How do we respond, especially if life clashes with these chance meetings? And what becomes of it? Once when looking for a place to rent, (25 years ago) I stopped to talk with an old man sitting on a bench. He had so much to say. My partner slowly became furious with me for taking the time to talk with him. We don’t have to wonder how that relationship went. In other words, this song is not about her…. Hee-hee. Or the old man for that matter. However, there are moments when paths cross, sometimes coming from very different trajectories and all of a sudden something wonderful happens in that moment. Gather, you might have experienced that too. This song is about a brief encounter with a kindred spirit, where our life trajectories did not change: A moment in passing. The song also contains some socially relevant thoughts/ lyrics about the world and my experience of it. Thoughts are thoughts though, and I find the more flexibly malleable I am with them, especially when it comes to the relative truths they may, or may not contain, the freer I am. Seems the more I attach to thoughts and refuse to change, the worse off it seems to get… But that’s just me. Hope you enjoy the song, Mark

Composition – The Eclectic Collective

This song began about half a year ago, as part of a three song set that Ken started with some really cool beats. Josh was first to the trough for here, laying in his fretless bass groove to complete the foundation and give it some tonal direction. Stephen came next and laid in the really trippy textural guitar that you hear throughout. JJ was next with his serious, no joke organ playing, which sets the mood for the whole thing. Last, but not least, Tez joined by adding some really cool accent guitar throughout.
  Of course, every great song needs a great producer, so we tapped Stephen to do the honors on this.
  We had originally made this and the other two song with the intention of having The Mysterious Decibel and his friend Modes About Me sing on them. However, life got in the way, so we sat on them. Finally, MD let us know that he wasn't able to complete the project with us, much to everyone's, including his, disappointment. However, MD did lay down a rough vocal demo for us, which Stephen very ably processed to sound almost like another instrument in there. So, we're releasing this song as a tribute to them both, with gratitude, especially to MD for all the great work he's put in with us. If you're not familiar with either of them, do yourself a favor and check them out. Modes about me is at  @modesaboutme and the link to The Mysterious Decibel can be found in the link in the cast of characters above. 
  This is an example of what it sounds like when the whole band composes a song together. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

A little ditty partly inspired by the events of this past summer here in the UK but mostly just about polarised society, the constant stream of misinformation we're all bombarded with and the state of permanent anger that everyone seems to live in these days.

I wrote this forty years ago as part of the "Scenes of St. Francis" small-town song anthology and thought it might be fun to post as fall is winding down but before the Christmas season gets into full swing.  St. Francis, Kansas is a little prairie town nestled in a shallow river valley and has an abundance of trees, mostly cottonwoods, but a few hardwoods that stand out especially in the fall. And with the trees was an abundance of squirrels always playing chase or hide and seek when they weren't getting into mischief.  They needed a song, and with my daughters being so young, I wanted to make it in the form of a children's song that they could sing along to.  As adult women, they still like to sing along when they hear it which is a good thing since my own singing voice has largely depleted with age.  But it is a nice reminder that once upon a time I could sing:) Rescued and remixed from an old but faithful cassette tape.

The second track I have done with The Gatsbys and it’s always a pleasure to be asked to collaborate.
Dirk sent me the instrumental and like before I was blown away by his guitar work & melody.
I contributed the lyrics and vocal melodies to this.
It was an honour that he used Nothing left to defend on his latest album Cancel the winter.
So to be asked again was always going to be a yes. 
The  Gatsbys always create that live indie band sound on final recordings  especially with Bens percussion work. 
I hope you enjoy the track as I enjoyed singing on it.
