Portugal’s 10 000 Russos are the latest to join the Fuzz Club Session alumni, with the 12” set for release January 22nd. Russos’ live session encapsulates their incredible droning psychedelia at its most raw and industrial, the live analogue recording allowing the band to shine in all their noisy glory. 

Offering four dark, experimental soundscapes that are structured by an array of effects and loops; the swathes of celestial noise and howling feedback underpinned by driving, monolithic Neu!-esque rhythms, hypnotic droning guitars a la Spacemen 3 and atonal, reverb-soaked vocals bringing to mind Mark E Smith on a ton of acid

"Cruel Friend" combines excellent riffage with near-Hawkwind levels of linear soarage and soak from the synths, with Natalie Hoffmann's dominating presence on vocals intact. >> Cruel Summer’s sound evokes the dazed, fuzzed-out, swirling noise of the late 1980s UK sound while still sticking to their pop roots--they’ve aptly been crowned San Francisco’s “jangle darlings.” Their first full-length album “Ivy” is forthcoming from Sacramento’s art/vinyl imprint Mt. St. Mtn.

Following their 2013 ST/EP (Mt. St. Mtn.,) they released the sold-out lathe-cut 7” for “Leeches,” accompanied by a video. In 2016 Cruel Summer released “Around You, Around Me,” recorded for L.A.’s Part Time Punks, the 7” B-side features a moody cover of Pylon’s “Crazy.” Mastered by Kramer (Galaxie 500 and Low).

“Ivy” is the long-awaited, first full-length album from this quartet, who have become a mainstay in the San Francisco and Oakland club scene. Recorded at Santo Studio in Oakland, California by Jason Kick (Sonny & the Sunsets, Once and Future Band, Mild High Club, Maus Haus), the record is a love poem to San Francisco, with all its changes and disappointments. Cruel Summer recently completed a California tour with the UK’s Primitives, and in early August they will be accompanying the 90s noise pop demons Swirlies on a full west coast tour.

This song is about loving someone who is super independent. You love them, you have all the feelings of intense love, but they are always out there, at arms length, just beyond your reach...so it feels like a dream...so I say to myself "you're imagining this, it's a dream you'll forget, wake up it's over". Because it feels like a love affair with all the emotions and feelings, but one that is ever so slightly unreal because that independent person is never totally there within reach. It's kind of like "pinch me, is this real?" But not because it's too good to be true, but because it's a love, a distant love that does kind of feel like it's not real.

Whilst busking on the street in San Francisco we met a random guy who called himself Captain Morgan. After claiming the spiced rum was named after him, he offered us our first ever gig in his friend's pub down the road. After playing the gig, we went back to our hostel and wrote this song.

Morgan

Feelings of reflection and nostalgia are manifested sonically by this two-piece Dream Pop project, intent on evoking an appreciation of the beauty to be found within such emotions. Born out of Melbourne, Australia, Bleach Dream is the collaboration of long-time friends Marty Greensill and Dave O’Kane who each bring a rich background of experience and influence to the sound they have created together. O’Kane’s graceful vocals float in and out between Greensill’s guitars echoing like reflections from another time. Fans of classic Dream Pop and Shoegaze will enjoy Bleach Dream’s modern take on the genre with their own sound inspired by greats such as The Cure, DIIV, and Wild Nothing.
