Gridline Base Band is a 7 piece psychedelic funk band, the most recent project of Zach Cohen (Guitar/Vocals), Daniel Kottmann (Guitar/Vocals), Andrew Yanchynshyn (Bass/Vocals), Robbie Elder (Drums), Rachel Kroft (Vocals), Dan Cohn (Auxiliary Percussion) and Adam Bonomo (Keyboards).  Based in the New York Metropolitan area, this infectious groove has snaked its way around the upper East Coast for the past 7 months, touring extensively.

    Gridline got their start in May of 2012 on a college campus in Westchester, NY.  Upon meeting each other, Andrew Yanchyshyn and Dan Kottmann, both Studio Production Majors, along with Zach Cohen, a Classical Guitar Major, became fast friends and ignited sparks that would spread like wild fire all the way to Syracuse, NY.  This would become the “true” birth place for the group, where one late night jam featuring a drummer from Berklee College of Music, Robbie Elder, would solidify this grooves core.  As time progressed, Gridline found their “icing on the cake” in Rachel Kroft, a Liberal Studies Major, and Dan Cohn, yet another Studio Production Major from SUNY Purchase College.  Finally, long time friend of Zach (Cosby) Cohen, Adam Bonomo, a keyboardist from The University of South Florida, fills out the rest of the line-up with incredible color.  Together, Gridline Base Band is an unstoppable force that quickly moves closer and closer to becoming one heck of a live phenomenon.

    In July of 2012, only a few weeks before the appearance of Robbie Elder, Zach, Daniel and Andrew sat down with drummer, Clint Mobley, and keyboardist, Ryan Gregg inside of Sabella Studios on Long Island to record the first four tracks of the band’s first EP, Gravity Loss.  Gravity Loss features four original studio tracks along with four live takes from a show at The Fire in Philadelphia, PA on August 5, 2012 with Robbie Elder beating away on the “pots and pans”. Ryan Judd is a Billboard Chart Topping recording artist and is an internationally known music therapist. His unique background as a music therapist and an accomplished fingerstyle guitarist allows him to bring music and well-being into harmony with each other. One of Ryan’s first experiences of the transformative power of music came when he was a young music therapy student going to see his grandmother for the last time. As he walked down the hall with his mom and brother by his side, everything felt cold, melancholy and sterile. The smell of disinfectant was in the air. Ryan entered his grandmother’s dark room and took out his guitar. The music he played broke through the isolation, sadness and fear. After the last notes faded, and tears welled in her eyes, she whispered, “That was good for my heart.” 

In addition to being inspired by healing experiences such as this and his work as a music therapist, Ryan is deeply influenced by guitarist Michael Hedges. When Ryan first saw Michael Hedges play, he was overwhelmed by emotion and knew that he had discovered something that would forever change the course of his life. Ryan has spent decades dedicating himself to mastering fingerstyle guitar and creating his own unique style as a performer and a composer.
