i sat there, forlorn, face beaten 
staring at a picture of a town we used to live in
a town where a flower bloomed each time your feet kissed the pavement
a town where brick and mortar were beauty and memory
a town where the houses were homes and gravity kept everything in its rightful place
it was perfect
but perfection was the sweetest illusion
how could i sleep when i counted greener grasses wishing they were sheep
dreams abandoned by eyes peeled to the ceiling 
so i packed my shit and left that town
aspirations of something realer lying over the horizon
i wonder if you're still there
seeing god in the clouds and bliss in the picket fences
laughing through it all
maybe we could meet again
but now i can finally rest
staring at the picture of a town we used to live in
