Immersed in the early days of the 90s midwest rave scene, Bill Converse began DJing at a young age in Lansing, Michigan. Luminaries such as Claude Young, Traxx, and Twonz were key early influences. Since moving to Texas in 1998, he has experimented with analog techniques in varied studio bunkers. Early techno, noise, ambient, tape, and paranormal processing are all part of his uncanny sound palette.

“Meditations/Industry” is Converse's debut vinyl release, collecting material from a cassette release on Obsolete Future. The tracks were recorded to tape with no overdubs in 2012-2013. As the title implies, the album places meditation inside tactile sonic processes. Bill is informed by his surroundings, influenced by scenes of desolation in nature, the sea, the desert, and places of industry, like power stations, old factories, and warehouses. The songs on this full length reveal a sublime influence from Detroit techno, early Chicago house, and Acid.

The album was recorded and mixed by Bill at his home studio in Austin and mastered by Dave Alex. All songs were EQed for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. A custom-made jacket designed by our in-house designer Eloise Leigh incorporates the abstract cobalt glaciers, reminiscent of blueprints, over a dark gray background. Each copy includes a postcard with notes and a photograph of a mountain range that looks like ocean waves.

After a digital single on Optimo Music Digital Danceforce, Optimo Music welcomes Bergsonist to the main label with a full album. Ridiculously talented and prolific, Bergsonist is one of thee most interesting, thoughtful and important artists of our times.

Bergsonist aka Selwa Abd is a New York–based artist and musician originally from Morocco. 

She is the founder of Bizaarbazaar, a music platform and publication that publishes podcasts and interviews by DJs and producers from around the world. Under the guise Bergsonist (derived from Deleuze's Bergsonism), she uses a variety of media to investigate social resonance through divergent conceptual aesthetics (minimalism, techno, and music concrete, to name a few). Through her work, she explores notions of identity, memory, and social politics. 


In 2017, she started Pick Up The Flow, a resource to promote congregation and exchange between peers. Currently, co-run with Stephen Decker. 
 
In 2019, she co-founded 3afak  with DJ Sanna, a collective that aims to empower Arab women’s creative vision in New York. 


Words about the album:

Middle Ouest is an ode to my history, present and  future self. Like a sonic autobiography, It's the first body of work that realistically depicts my identity. It's a statement towards all the people who tried to put me into a box. I'm not a box but a  genre-less ocean. I don't make genres, I just make music I feel making in the moment. It's all about capturing the moment in a given time. If the aesthetic happens to be house or techno then it is. But I'm not a techno artist.. I'm just a free sonic 'voyageur'. I make music as i feel the world; it can be dark, jovial, weird... I mirror the feelings into sonic compositions. However, the only variables that never change in this equation are the message and intention.

During the making of this record I was primarily concerned with the anxieties of postmodern existence. Living with constant information connects us but ultimately drives us apart as powerful institutions use information and disinformation to manipulate the public and manufacture consent. As a first generation Chinese immigrant raised in the west, I am interested in the process of sampling from ethnically diverse, "foreign" origins as well as local, familiar sources and seeing how they interplay with each other in startling new ways. Sampling is an old artform, a foundation of electronic music, and we are learning as a new generation how to utilize this tradition under changing ethical standards. Stylistically this record was made with the intention of using a lot of disparate samples from politically-incongruous places: European colonialist films, a white Mormon indie rock band, Japanese kabuki, traditional Chinese hand percussion, Nixon's speeches, vocals from both American and Cantonese pop icons, an experimental record about the Vietnam war, etc., and combine them in ways that are unexpected, non-fetishistic, and nuanced. As post-millennial people, we enjoy greater access to cultural artifacts ("samples") than ever before which can lead to great artistic works if used with respect to context, meaning, and cultural significance. This EP was an attempt to explore that.

Organizatsiya hail from Lyon, France. Leo and Zoe clearly have strong roots in folk and acoustic music. These ‘old worlds’ blend in surprisingly well with more contemporary digital, futuristic sounds. Soothing analog recordings meet hyperdigital compositions reminiscent of IDM creations and peppered with spoken words that dance around in unexpected ways.
Seductive, intelligent and deeply hypnotic, this esoteric material delivers a dreamlike experience.
Like finishing a game and celebrating victory with cheap champagne in a neon light lit bubble bath with the end tune of The Legend of Zelda in the air. 
With Maxime Bisson on bass, and several great contributions by guest musicians on this record. Designed sleeve and printed inner sleeve by Guilhem Prat.
