LOFT (@loftminduk) is the latest artist to join the Astral Plane Recordings family and will debut on October 14 with the enigmatic Turbulent Dynamics EP. With a penchant for rhizomic drum programming, sparkling synth work and hallucinogenic sound design, Turbulent Dynamics is comprised of two totemic floor burners and three interstitial efforts, ranging from cerebral polyrhythmic techno to grotesque new age manipulations. In terms of sound alone LOFT’s entry to the APR catalogue marks something of a departure, but his unwillingness to genuflect to sonic convention means he fits right in with the ethos that SHALT, Chants and Nunu have previously set out.

Max Winter is a London-based composer (most recently featuring on Or:la's 'MMXX Leap' compilation on her Céad label) whose electronic productions are unique in that much of them were produced for choreographed dance pieces. A student of composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Max wrote latest EP ‘Aporia' for a contemporary dance piece choreographed by Thomas Page, another Trinity alumnus. After the dance was premiered in January 2019, Max decided to condense the score into an EP, which is now seeing a release on Cherche Encore. "This was originally two separate tracks from different moments in the dance," Max Winter says of 'CCK 4', which we're premiering below. "I stitched them together and added the voice of Annika Kordes, who narrated the performance. It is probably the one track on the EP that covers all aspects of the dance." On 'CCK 4', a shimmering synth line is underpinned by a complex array of skittering breakbeats sounding akin to Squarepusher or Venetian Snares. Tune in below.

Working in Lisbon electronic music's most modern and enticing fringes since 2006, Maria Amor's story is intertwined with naive and naivety from even before the get-go: her influence and support helped shape these labels and their sound, so it's with enormous love + respect that we release her first solo EP, with the fittingly poetic title 'Her Roses Dance Louder Than Tears'. 

In this EP, bold, future-facing production goes hand in hand with melodic incantations - experimentation peeks at every corner, and even Maria Amor's own vocals flourish in both textural and lyrical ways. Her active role in her hometown as a careful selector and word-spreader (is this a proper word?) for genres like dubstep, club, uk funky, uk garage and beyond timelessly transpires in her current sound, which nevertheless remains highly personal, brave and outstanding.

Tallinn’s top leftfield pop export breaks her half-decade solo hiatus with a choice collection of daydream discotheque classics: Soft Power. Recorded between Hollywood and Calabasas over the last few years, and co-produced by Dzang studio pro Adam Gunther, the album is pure Minerva: high and low, heady and hedonistic, deadpan diva designs for neon nights and mirage dance floors.

She starts off seductive (“hey pretty baby it’s been a while / haven’t seen your lovely face for a long time”), then sways through an array of bedroom bangers and crushed crystalline ballads, crooning and swooning, autobiographical electronica spanning Detroit to New York, London to L.A. Songs of intimacy and illusion, impatience and introspection, of cutting loose and being cut off, left wanting more: “Taste this love till the morning sun.
