Dreaming Back

While the old people are busy building up their village, the mothers are sewing clothes, cooking and taking care of the cattle, the children are driven out into the adjacent forest. A completely new playground opens up for them. Although the old ones had forbidden them to go into the forest, they did. Perhaps without knowing what dangers they would expose themselves to. But the forest beckoned. It lured with scents, strange yet familiar sounds, animals that quickly hid when someone got too close. Further down, the children came to a small river playing and laughing, purring softly as it made its way through the thicket. The sun was glistening in the drops of water from the spray that the small river washed up on the stones lying on the bank. A boy called out to the other children from some distance away, pointing to a tree trunk. Only a few feet separated them from the boy standing on the bank, who gestured wildly at the log. The group of children stood with open mouths all around the tree trunk. Strange characters were carved into its bark, a kind of dream catcher hung down from one of the branches, and a wooden stake driven into the ground rose up in front of them. Perched on it was a pearly, tiny skull. Deliberating about whether to go to the old ones to report their discovery, the magnificent playground around them forced them to resume playing. Only little 'Fridjor' slipped away from the group to seek out the village. Once in the village, he told his father about the strange runes down by the river. His father rounded up a few companions to make their way to the river. This was to be significant. A new chapter is about to begin in Risengaard...

Während die alten damit beschäftigt waren, ihr Dorf aufzubauen, die Mütter Kleider nähten, kochten und sich um das Vieh zu kümmerten, trieb es die Kinder hinaus in den angrenzenden Wald. Ein gänzlich neuer Spielplatz tat sich ihnen auf. Obwohl es die alten ihnen verboten hatten in den Wald zu gehen, taten sie es. Vielleicht ohne zu wissen, welchen Gefahren sie sich aussetzen würden. Doch der Wald lockte. Er lockte mit Düften, seltsamen und doch vertrauten Geräuschen, Tieren, die sich schnell versteckten, wenn ihnen jemand zu nahe kam. Weiter unten kamen die Kinder spielend und lachend an einen kleinen Fluss, der sich leise säuselnd seinen Weg durch das Dickicht bahnte. Die Sonne spiegelte sich glitzernd in den Wassertropfen der säumenden Gischt, die der kleine Fluss an die am Ufer liegenden Steine spülte. Ein Junge rief aus einiger Entfernung die anderen Kinder herbei, deutend auf einen Baumstamm. Nur ein paar Meter trennte sie von dem am Ufer stehenden Jungen, der wild gestikulierend auf den Baumstamm deutete. Die Gruppe der Kinder stand mit offenen Mündern ringsherum um den Baumstamm. Seltsame Schriftzeichen waren in seiner Rinde eingeritzt, eine Art Traumfänger hing von einem der Äste herab und vor ihnen ragte ein in den Boden gerammter Holzpflock empor. Auf diesem thronte ein perlmuttfarbener, winziger Schädel. Beratschlagend darüber, ob sie zu den alten gehen sollten um von ihrer Entdeckung berichten sollten, zwang sie der herrliche Spielplatz um sie herum, wieder weiterzuspielen. Nur der kleine ‚Fridjor‘ schlich sich weg von der Gruppe, um das Dorf aufzusuchen. Im Dorf angekommen berichtete er seinem Vater von den seltsamen Runen unten am Fluss. Sein Vater trommelte ein paar Gefährten zusammen, um sich auf den Weg zum Fluss zu machen. Dies sollte bedeutungsvoll sein. Ein neues Kapitel steht bevor in Risengaard…
