Knife In The Dark (2020)

It's an evening incredibly silent, snowy and serene. Snowflakes dance with the gentle wind as their partner, slowly descending from the heavens above, becoming one with the white, blanketed ground below. You're out on another one of your wilderness excursions, deep within the mountains, hiking in the middle of seemingly nowhere and admiring the quiet beauty surrounding you. 

The snow absorbs the sounds of the world, making your footsteps the only noise for miles, or so it seems. As you come to a halt, a stab of dread settles over you, for you continue to hear the pronounced sound of footsteps in snow, which aren't your own. The crunch, crunch, crunching of abnormal steps comes upon you, nearer and nearer. You freeze in place, as an incredibly large, shadowy shape transforms into figure, and emerges from the misty curtain of falling snow. A sleek creature, with swirling horns garnering its head, dragon like and features sharp, standing like a mountain beside you. The beast stops in its tracks by your side, seemingly transfixed upon an invisible something in the vast distance before you, ignoring your presence entirely. The only sounds being that of your heart and the deep breaths of this gigantic creature, each one leaving an ascending mist which fades as quickly as it appears, into the night air above.

What may be seconds feels like minutes, and you realize you've been holding your breath ever since this creature revealed itself. You let out a gasp as silent as you can manage. The strange serpent immediately turns its mighty head slowly towards you. Its gaze, deep and intense, staring daggers through your soul...

As you question your sanity, as well as if this may be reality or dream, your blood throbs loudly in your ears, and heart screams in fear... even a little excitement.

You prepare for the worst, but then... almost as quickly as the beast had come, it loosens its gaze, turns its eyes back onto the course before it, and makes its way on into the sheer, snow-veiled darkness of a chilling evening.

Oakenbark is a metal based experimental instrumental music project from Finland, which combines various genres, like dungeon and medieval synth,  neoclassical and orchestral elements, to the cinematic atmospheres and themes. 
The Oakenbark began in 2018 as a Dungeon Synth band and later incorporated other styles, as black metal, and classical and orchestral music. After a few musical changes, the first digital recording,  the 'Rotting Lands' demo was made in late 2019. The first self-published EP called ‘Beneath The Mountains’ was released in the spring of 2020. The project is still active and has started working on new music..
