This was the first time I encountered an instrument called a hurdy-gurdy. I cannot operate this handle, but I imagined that immersing myself in the spaces that this instrument has an emotional feeling like the mind and body are united with the instrument. wonderful.

Shock the Algorithm

I wanted to exploit the sound of one of my favourite folk instruments. The hurdy-gurdy is not heard so very often in the UK. What could be better than to use a medieval instrument for a leading-edge space opera like my essay into "The Vanished Birds"?

Several SoundClouders have remarked on the hurdy-gurdy. My own passion for it started in the 1990s when I found myself in a Breton village on the day of their hurdy-gurdy festival. We marched up and down through that village behind a band of 30 or 40 hurdy-gurdy players, with the odd Breton bagpiper and bombarde-player chipping in, as the mood took them. Somewhere, I still have my field recordings of the day. The tunes were simple and very catchy.

As the ranks are formed, the High-Paladin galvanize his troops, imbuing them with holy blessings and the will to carry out their duty. The warriors shouts in answer, their minds are set to battle.

so ive had a few messages asking about my process -woke at 6 this morning with the guitar line running through my head think i was dreaming it - downloaded a midi track free - set my drums up - used the midi tracks like karaoke tracks for the guitar and bass (does any one else do this ?) played all the way through recorded - sang along  - was fun -kinda like band karaoke-hope you enjoy
