This month’s Carhartt WIP Radio show features @donato-dozzy, one of the country’s most profound electronic music producers and DJs, internationally renowned for the hypnotic and manifold ways in which he can create deep, absorbing techno trips.

Dozzy first honed his skills at the mythical squat-slash-club Brancaleone in Rome, before moving to Berlin in the mid-aughts, where he elevated his signature style even further with his “Dozzy’s Night” residency at Panorama Bar. Since then, he has gone on to grace line-ups alongside esteemed peers, such as Marcel Dettmann, Jeff Mills, Surgeon, and his compatriot Marco Shuttle.

As a producer, Dozzy first began to make waves in 2004, and has since gone on to release a string of EPs and albums on labels such as Spectrum Spools, Tresor, or The Bunker New York. In addition, he also runs three record labels. Dozzy Records, launched 2006, @spaziodisponibile, established in 2016 together with DJ and producer Giuseppe Tillieci aka @neel, and his latest label @magacircemusica, together with the Spanish graphic artist and DJ @aliciacarrera. 

For Carhartt WIP Radio, Dozzy conducted a mix that gently immerses the listener into his rich body of work playing classics like “Gol” and remixes he has done for other artists, like the legendary experimental electronic group Cabaret Du Ciel. @djalejasanchez is the label head of Northallsen records and contributor to labels such as Semantica, Illegal Alien, Planet Rhythm among others. With an experimental hypnotic sound fused with both gentle and melancholic lines, she reveals her stylized and unique sound narrative.

Deepness, quality and versatility are characteristics of Aleja Sanchez who always strives to create a unique dialogue between the Nature soundscapes, techno and experimental electronics, carefully curated and skillfully organized in a unique sonorous narrative both in the studio and behind the decks.

In 2019, Aleja Sanchez was listed by Resident Advisor as one of the biggest international exports from the Colombian techno scene.

As the son of legendary DJ GOA GIL, growing up in Goa, India, DANA NADA was partying before he could walk. Moving to Tokyo in 2003, he was immediately drawn to the Japanese party scene where after a few years he began organizing his own events in 2006.

He is the co-founder of BrainBusters (2006~) & Re:birth Festival (2013~), both premier organizations in their respective scenes.

DANDAN brings a high energy vibe wherever she goes. Her unique style of techno uses powerful beats with an underlying groove to keep the dance floor on their toes.  

Originally from Tianjin, China, DANDAN spent her late teens and early 20s studying Art & Fashion in England & France. After moving to Japan, she discovered the underground party scene, fell in love with techno music and began to DJ.

Art Bei Ton Podcast 093: DANA NADA & DANDAN

For this month’s show of Carhart WIP Radio, we are traveling to Amsterdam to celebrate 10 years of Dekmantel Festival. This year, the event extends over the course of ten days, with the addition of a conference program at Het HEM and Aan Het IJ, featuring workshops, panel discussions and live interviews.

Before becoming a globally renowned music festival,  operated as a series of local club nights, as well as a record label. The label @dkmntl launched in 2009 with an EP by duo Juju & Jordash, and fifteen years later, continues to release all manner of innovative club sounds, from house to experimental techno, by the likes of upsammy, Sam Goku, Olof Dreijer & Diva Cruz.

For this edition of Carhartt WIP Radio, Olf van Elden AKA @interstellarfunk, who currently runs and oversees Dekmantel Records, created a mix featuring mostly exclusive, soon to be released brand-new Dekmantel music. As ever, the mix is accompanied by an interview with our host van Elden, who gives insights on the label and its ties to the festival and global electronic music culture. Carhartt WIP Radio July 2024: Dekmantel Records

This month’s show features the Belgian record label and music festival @meakusma, which began in 2004 as a series of events across Brussels and the small eastern Belgium city Eupen, before evolving into a record label in 2008, and a festival in 2016, aiming to celebrate the unclassifiable, through music, installations, and lectures.
 
Since the label’s inception, Meakusma has continued to release a selection of records which defy genre and categorization, from artists such as Madteo, Viola Klein, Tomaga, Charlemagne Palestine, Don’t DJ, Lord Tang, Sam Gendel, or Pretty Sneaky.
 
For this episode of Carhartt WIP Radio, Meakusma’s founders created a sprawling mix exploring the label’s back catalogs, abstract sounds by Roger 23, minimal techno from Detroit’s Terrence Dixon, and twisted electronics by Berlin’s Peter Kock. Carhartt WIP Radio August 2024: Meakusma

This month’s Carhartt WIP Radio show is hosted by the Kaifeng-born, London-based composer, sound artist, and DJ @yu_su.

Since releasing her debut EP Preparation for Departure in 2018, the artist has emerged as one of the most versatile producers in electronic music, whether it’s creating meditative, downtempo sounds and rich, jazz-inspired textures, or blending echoes of Chinese classical with mid-tempo house.

In 2021, Su co-founded the label @bie-records, launching it with her debut album Yellow River Blue, which was recorded during a winter tour of mainland China, and is filled with glimmering synths, dubbed-out bass, and moments of 90s trip-hop.

This month’s show features DJ and producer @juan-atkins, also known as Model 500 or Infiniti, and the music of his fabled label Metroplex. 

Launched in 1985, Metroplex opened with the Model 500 EP "No UFOs." The global demand for his new sound provided Atkins with an outlet for a string of iconic releases. 40 years on, he remains deeply committed to pushing the boundaries of sonic exploration.

For Carhartt WIP Radio, Juan Atkins has created a Metroplex anniversary mix that underlines the label’s innovative style, with tracks by himself, as well as his daughter Milan Ariel, and producers like Robert Hood.

The next chapter of our hereandthere podcast series comes from Uväll — the Tbilisi-based DJ and producer Irakli Bregvadze, known for his raw, driving sound rooted in deep, muscular rhythms. Always pushing the edge, he has released on labels such as Semantica, Hayes, FLOAT, Canticle, WSNWG, INGUMA, and OECUS, quickly establishing himself as a respected voice within Georgia’s scene.

Beyond his productions, Uväll is also the co-founder — together with Script — of FACTION, a self-organised party series and label created by a new wave of techno DJs and producers. Rooted in sonic exploration and collective momentum, FACTION has become a platform for emerging artists and a reflection of contemporary techno.

Uväll shares a mix recorded during his set at RSO Berlin for the Deestricted club night.

This month’s show is brought to you by the Canada-born, Berlin-based producer, DJ, and label founder @darwinspec. Darwin cut her teeth in Berlin’s nightclubs in 2010, first a regular on Panorama Bar’s dance floor, before stepping behind the decks at the now-defunct club Griessmühle, where she hosted her first residency in 2014. 
 
In 2015, Darwin launched her label @specrecords, dedicated to platforming UK bass and hybrid club sounds by new, up-and-coming artists. To celebrate 10 years of SPE:C, Darwin has put together a mix, highlighting some of the label’s most formative releases - past, present, and unreleased.
