Californian native Taylor Freels has been shaping dancefloors for some time and in a past life under the name Urulu has had quite an impact our community. Having shelved the project momentarily a new alias has sprouted in the form of Liquid Earth. With countless bangers already under his belt Taylor is a core member of many taste making collectives, Butter Side Up, Kalahari Oyster Cult all benefit from his refined dancefloor focused style. Not staying in one place for too long but more than happy to revisit certain time periods in house music but with a revised vigour and wide eyed appreciation for the love that has gone into the original source material. Berlin based artist Anthea is a well-known figure head of the world minimal scene. Her longstanding residencies at the likes of Berlin’s Club der Visionaere, Moscow’s Rodnya, as well as featuring at all the major stop off around the globe has propelled the Brit into the collective consciousness of our community. Through her incendiary DJ sets, forward thinking productions and her essential imprint Partisan which is home to upfront releases from Giammarco Orsini, Charonne and LVCA. Anthea is also set to take her label story even further alongside Valesco with the offshoot imprint PILLZ featuring collaborations and close friends with the first release coming later this summer from Francesco Carvetta. DIM276 - Sugar Free

I know we say this almost every week, but for our next edition of Trommel InSession we have something very special for you. The moniker Respond/React might be new but it is comprised of three artists that are certainly not new to the scene. Artists Man/Ipulate, Massaï, and Lamalice will no doubt conjure up lengthy Sentaku parties helmed by their founders and regulars that have helped the Parisian / London based label and event series to flourish. The ethos of the triple trouble combo offers fresh perspective in the relationship between crowd, the music and the emotion that comes with hearing a new track at home and the effect that it has on the audience at a gig. 

The three have illustrious solo adventures and so the prospect of all three artists working together behind the decks is mouth-watering. Luckily for you this ethos was cemented in the live recording of their set for the French brothers Mates in Bordeaux. At the Sentaku showcase Man/Ipulate, Massaï, and Lamalice deftly switch between banging house, grinding basslines and insistent breaks all with a special synergy between them that resulted in this vibe heavy recording.

One look at Flo’s recent post regarding her upcoming tour schedule and you know that you are witnessing an up curve of epic proportions. Over the next few months she will be stopping off at Nostromo (twice), Nodd Club, Keepitgoing, Pickle Factory, the list is huge and growing. And well deserved. She has also flexed at HÖR what seems like just yesterday, the love shown in the comments point to a musician in love with her work.

Flo’s Boiler Room performance in the close to home metropolis of Sao Paulo was immediately a shoe in for mix of the year. So, we included it in our top 25 sessions and it is her brand of cosmic, almost proto techno direction that is injected in to her mix for us. We couldn’t wait to have her record a little something for our InSession series and with this being our 100th mix in the series the results are, well, turn it up and find out.

Flo Massé - Trommel InSession 100

Can You Jigit founding member Tomas Station has a different eye to most. His descriptive mixing style ensures that this Colombian says exactly what he wants to say through his music. An artist that has dived straight into the consciousness of the underground as a result of his residency for New York stalwart ReSolute, his own productions, the utterly outrageous Can You Jigit events, spotlight sets for some of the best sounding dancefloors in the world, wait, we’ve ran out of fingers. 

Here he flexes his undeniable Latin American lineage with wave after wave of off kilter gems that not just rattle the speakers vibrate the soul. With no irony whatsoever Tomas Station operates on a different plane with his track selection. Gritty house dovetails to Cumbia, while whipped minimal grooves are segued smoothly into ambient tones. There is a serious telling of a story afoot in this mix, that even goes for how the mix was even recorded. 

So, the story goes, not ones to miss an opportunity for a good party, while recording this mix at Why Not Club in Zanzibar they opened the club just for this occasion. What started as a completely empty club soon grew into an impromptu rave with people enjoying a magical unplanned moment. We have a funny feeling that their set at Sophie in Malaga will be full on vibes from the very beginning...

For the 35th installment of our podcast series, we have a selector that has been going from strength to strength recently. Junki Inoue is as talented as they come. The Japanese-born, but London-based DJ somehow manages to make the heaviest of beats sound light and refined. His programming, razor-sharp mixing, refined curation, and humble attitude have earned him spots at some of the dopest venues and festivals around. Through his label SAISEI he also introduces long-forgotten obscurities from The Land of the Rising Sun to discerning collectors and selectors in Europe. This mix is an excerpt of his stellar performance at our Bret ADE event last year. Enjoy the ride!

VBX #35 - Podcast by Junki Inoue

Italian hotshot Yaar Kü has been a pivotal part of the huge success of After Caposile, having helped it grow from a humble Sunday after hours to the worldwide powerhouse it currently is. Having honed his craft in the garden and in the main room, Yaar Kü has distilled his sound over years of experimentation to produce the heady sonics that his sets burst with. Outside of his home turf, there have been many highlights to speak of and with slots at Les Enfants Brillants, Butik Festival, Distrikt Bar in Leeds, and Yellow House during  Amsterdam Dance Event there will surely be many more in 2024.

As well as a steady slew of top drawer bookings on the horizon, Yaar Kü is also in the process of forging his path in the studio. Being a part of the label output from Caposile Music is not a prerequisite as the brand is built on quality and their residents need to adhere to this. Luckily for AC there are bombs a plenty to be found in Yaar Kü’s studio. This has already begun to bear fruits with releases on his beloved Caposile Music by way of a sole EP, an inclusion on “The Sound of the Garden” VA, and most recently the impressive collab alongside Miller for Les Enfants Records.

Moving on to this week's InSession edition and we find this Italian in scintillating form with a barrage of punchy selections that we can visualise destroying every part of the dancefloor. From proto house and deeper cuts there is a distinct Italo flavour that underpins the mix to devastating effect. We would be selling both artist and mix extremely short to say that this is part of the sound that makes up After Caposile, but there is little doubt that Yaar Kü’s influence is a clear indicator of the vibe that makes up this special place.

Stepping up during Picnic's Beach Stage takeover on the first night of the festival, the Italian's flawless set, which became festival-folklore over the proceeding days, still burns bright in our memory. DJ Rou is a multifaceted and charismatic artist, DJ, producer and beatmaker, as well as a key figure in the panorama of Italian underground clubbing, as he’s the founder of Archivio180 record store.

Born in 1991, she has collaborated and published throughout his career singles and EPs with important Italian and international labels such as Bosconi Records, Cognitiva Records, Ax On Wax and Robsoul Jazz.

You can expect the unexpected as we can identify him as one of the most eclectic DJs we have ever known, thanks to his enormous background and his ability to switch between completely different musical genres with an unique touch and sensibility.
The energy he transmits to all the people, the ability to create an almost palpable connection between him, his records and the crowd who dance to his music.

We're excited to bring this thoroughbred breeder to our podcast series!

Our twelfth episode comes from none other than Marco Pellegrino aka Ancut. Marco runs the Discarded Gems label, but his connection with OTG stems from his incredibly dedicated work as the founder of Analogcut Mastering Studio, where he works as the main mastering engineer and lacquer cutter.  Needless to say, he is one of the central figures in our operation, a trusted friend who always keeps a low profile but delivers quality in his craft and music, both as a DJ and as a producer. This set was recorded live at the last Superluminal vs Discarded Gems event in Berlin.

OTGCAST012 - Ancut

This is a live recording from Jigit (Resolute) in NYC, the infamous long party at h0l0. It was the first time this live was performed and it keeps getting better and better, as they do, through each performance, a never ending quest for perfection even though that perfection are the imperfections, the spontaneous improvisations along the way.

Highly regarded as a versatile and talented artist , not only in his home country Chile but the world out. A career spanning 20+ years, his ties to some of the most integral and quality musicians and industry wide individuals easily exposes which side he is on. 

Felipe comes from a pool of artists from a generation that for sure “interacts” with the current one through ways of working, relationships and beyond, but there is one thing they have as s core, a base to it all: their values. Some of these are integrity, care, sharing, educating, learning, being humble, always and forever prioritising music above all things and against all odds. 

With an infinite discography and extensive musical background that spans decades, the head behind labels such as Melcure, HC and Cure music defines his career as a protracted palette of colours. From classical to rock and from indie to new wave, Felipe has dedicated most of his life to developing his perspective on all musical trends, and the last 20 years, focused on exploring electronic sounds and all its sub-genres.

As an inveterate music lover and collector, it is clear to define him as a broad dj with a diverse vision, one that defies any narrowed musical genre specification, it is very wide, that combined with a very personal musical identity, absorbing from each style while generating what we call “the stamp”, the bit that defines one as “an artist”, their unique points. 

Known by his peers as a "full on music maker", there is no doubt about the countless tracks that are part of his sessions nowadays, so much so that in 2024 he launched a brand new live at H0l0 in NYC for a Jigit event. This live recording can be found HERE, it was released on the toi toi mix series, a collective he is very much attached to musically and ideologically. Some of his recent releases have been so sought after that copies were running out of the shelves at shops in no time. 

Many labels and Alter egos define this audio engineer as a complete and open minded producer.

Among his collaborations we can find him as: FAER, AHORA, Acapulco heat, Calcio Club, Bichos raros, Dorian Paic among many others, in addition to his multiple solo projects.

After various conversations with Nacho Capella (RICARDISTAS) I decided to take inspiration from his posts on Instagram, from his TEMPOIBIZA profile, and prepare a tribute set to one of the most historic, long-lived and important clubs on the planet. In fact, my set is a tribute to Amnesia and its history.
