On the 15th of November, Jean Nicholas Beuze, UNHCR representative in Iraq visited Makanati studio in AHJ’s office in Erbil and recorded an insightful episode with Mariam Jenan and Sahar Moukaddem.
In this episode, Mariam and Sahar discuss with Jean Nicholas the Refugees integration policy in Kurdistan and the impact it had so far. Moreover, they talk about UNFPA Iraq’s activities, the situation of women refugees in Kurdistan and “I belong” the UNHCR’s campaign to end statelessness worldwide.
Aside from professional work, in this episode we get to know more about Jean Nicholas Beuze the "human", his childhood and the experiences that shaped him and lead him to work in the humanitarian field. Throughout this episode, Jean Nicholas Beuze proves why being “Humane” is the core of the “Humanitarian work”.

پۆدکاستی یەکبگرن لەگەڵ خاتوون سوزان سەفەر و خاتوون بەهار عەلی

On the 7th of December, Ms. Aya Sarchil, Head of development at the High Council for Women and Development (HCWD) in KRG and Mr. Lionel Laforgue, Gender and Human Rights Program Coordinator at UNFPA Iraq, visited Makanati Studio in AHJ’s office in Erbil to record an episode with Mariam Jenan and Sahar Moukaddem around the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV) campaign.

 In this episode Aya and Lionel discussed HCWD’s and UNFPA’s activities within the framework of this campaign. They talked about the efforts of each of their departments in preventing violence against women and also tackled the challenges they face when it comes to ending GBV in Kurdistan. In addition, they highlighted the importance of this year’s theme “Unite” and the need to have multi-sectoral coordinated actions between all the society’s entities to drive a sustainable change when it comes to GBV. The issues of positive masculinity, behavior’s change, the nuclear family’s role and the society’s role in preventing GBV have also been raised during the discussion. 

An insightful episode that not only reflected on the reality of Violence against women in Kurdistan but also offered a positive outlook on the achievements that have been made and that can be made once the government, UN agencies, Civil Society organizations, the media and the society as a whole stand in solidarity and “unite” to end Gender Based Violence.
