A radio slips between stations. From static, a voice emerges, reading an elliptical, fragmentary text, interpolated with birdsong, improvised music and sounds of private acts performed in public spaces. The performed text is from a copy of Institutional and Schizophrenia: A Comparative Study of Three Mental Hospitals 1960-68.   The medical/authoritative voice has been erased using Tippex, leaving a poetic, Beckettian remainder which gradually coalesces into a description of the collective experience of those who were compelled to live long-term at Netherne hospital and an emotional, evocative exploration of power structures, dailiness and creativity in the experimental art therapy studio there. Rose Ruane is an artist and writer, living and working in Glasgow. Her debut novel This Is Yesterday was published by Corsair books, with a second to follow in summer 2024. She has made radio work for Radio Scotland, Radio 3 and Radiophrenia and is currently finishing a SGSAH funded PhD at Glasgow University exploring The Adamson Collection: work created during the C20th, in the art therapy studio at Netherne mental hospital, by individuals who were compelled to live there. Wing of Glass was created in collaboration with a sound artist working under the name Local Teenagers.

In 2001, Regensburg-based Markus Guentner and Affin’s Joachim Spieth first crossed  paths through their contributions to Kompakt’s Pop Ambient series. Their creative  synergy resurfaces with ‘Overlay,' a six-track album that amalgamates decades of their  distinctive styles - a harmonious blend of Guentner's ethereal, atmospheric textures  and Spieth's pulsating rhythms.  

“We envisioned a process akin to masking and unveiling, revealing certain elements  while fading others, mirroring the essence of the album titles themselves. This  reflects how we approached the audio material, a philosophy extended to our album.  This collaboration thrived on a foundation of trust, cultivated organically, much like  our previous joint endeavors. Musically, we entrust each other almost instinctively”.
  
With meticulously crafted tracks showcasing their artistry in creating evocative sonic  landscapes, this release marks the inaugural entry in a series of collaborative works  by the duo. 

"With this album, the flow of things knows no distinct start or finish—rather, it's a  continuous stream of material in motion." 

'Overlay' will be released digitally and on a limited edition CD on November 3 via  Spieth's Affin Records.

Гудковая Симфония – это симфония для города, которая была написана Арсением Авраамовым в начале XX века. Что самое удивительное она была исполнена, целых два раза – в Баку и Москве на 7 ноября, в 23 и 24 году. 

Это грандиозное действо включало в себя невероятное количество людей, целые заводы, воинские части, корабли, пожарные сирены и пушки стреляющие боевыми снарядами – Авраамов был перфекционистом и холостые его не устраивали. Всеми этими частями симфонии, разбросанными по огромной площади руководил дирижер, который стоял на высокой точке и отдавал команды с помощью семафорной азбуки (флажками, как на флоте). В Москве симфония была исполнена с помощью гудков фабрики, что стояла на другой стороне Москвы-реки от Зарядья.
