En este primer episodio de Ponte a hablar en inglés me gustaría presentarme y contarte por qué he decidido crear este podcast. Pero además hoy mismo te voy a explicar cómo decir en inglés “mi hijo mayor” o “mi hermano mayor”. ¿Cómo lo dirías en inglés? ¿Qué utilizarías: big, bigger, small, little, younger, etc.? &nbsp; Si sientes curiosidad te lo explico todo en este primer episodio de nuestro recién estrenado podcast “Ponte a hablar en inglés”.  In this first episode I would like to introduce myself and tell you why I decided to create this podcast. But, that's not all, I am also going to explain to you how to say in English “mi hermano mayor” or “mi hijo mayor”. Do you know how to say this in English? It seems easy, right? Maybe you are already doing it correctly, that’s great! But just in case, let's check it out!

Ponte a hablar en inglés Introduction

Did you notice that we only have one translation for these two verbs? That is to say, both “say and tell” are translated as “decir” (one verb in Spanish, two in English).  This is also the case in French, Italian and Portuguese. Again, all of the languages that come from Latin (so, we are not alone…)  And you may be wondering, so what? Where is the problem? They both mean “decir” and that’s it! Well, not really, you have to be very careful when to use one or the other, and how to use them! Are you ready to find out? Let's go then! &nbsp;  &nbsp; Hoy te voy a hablar de los verbos "say" y "tell". ¿Te habías dado cuenta de que sólo existe una traducción en castellano para esos dos verbos? Es decir, tanto say como tell se traducirán como "decir": dos verbos en inglés para uno en español. Y este es el caso también del francés, italiano y portugués. Todos ellos idiomas provenientes del latín (es decir, que no estamos solos...)  Y puede que estés pensando, ¿y cuál es el problema? Ambos significan "decir" y ya está.  Bueno, no es tan fácil porque no los podemos utilizar indistintamente, debes saber cuándo utilizar uno u otro. Y eso es lo que te voy a enseñar hoy.  Así que, ¿listos?

When to use "tell" and "say"

In this podcast, I am going to explain to you how to say in English: “Mi marido y yo” or “mi hermana y yo” or “mi perrito y yo…” Have you ever had to use this expression in English? If I asked you now, would you know how to say it? Let’s see, what would you say: “My husband and I” or “My husband and me”? Uhm, which one do you think is correct? The first one, the second one? &nbsp; You are not sure now, right? &nbsp;Then, let me tell you, you are right to hesitate because both are correct! But, be careful! These two forms cannot be interchanged! You have to know when to use one or the other. And this is what we are going to see today, plus a little bit of "mindset" to keep improving your English. &nbsp; En el podcast de hoy te voy a explicar cómo decir en inglés: "mi mujer y yo" o "mi hermano y yo" o incluso: "mi perrito y yo..."  ¿Alguna vez has tenido que usar alguna de estas expresiones y has dudado?
