Dave Stapleton is a singular talent. In less than ten years since graduating in classical piano from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Stapleton has established himself as a musician, composer and label boss and become an important figure on the UK jazz scene.

Flight marks his eighth release under his own name. It’s his most ambitious album to date featuring the Brodowski String Quartet alongside saxophonist Marius Neset, bassist Dave Kane, drummer Olavi Louhivuori and, of course, Stapleton himself on piano. Already recognised as a writer of beautiful, lyrical tunes, Flight marks a leap forward and establishes him as one of the most ambitious young composers in jazz.

His compositional abilities, continue to gain ever wider acknowledgement. His commission for the Lunar Saxophone Quartet, Catching Sunlight, garnered five star reviews, whilst the Mavron String Quartet premiered Stapleton’s first work for strings in 2009. He has also written scores for animations and short films, including Pellegrina for the S4C (Channel Four Wales) short animation and The Outsider (Best Welsh Film Award at the Cardiff Film Festival), and is the recipient of a number of commissions from the ABRSM Exam board.

But it is the breadth of his ambition that really marks Dave Stapleton out amongst his peers. The Dave Stapleton Quintet (DSQ) combines a muscular intensity with consummate delicacy in performance and their three CD’s to date have been highly praised by critics in Britain and abroad. Two improvised duets, one with saxophonist Deri Roberts and another with fellow pianist Matthew Bourne, have met with similar approval.

If that weren’t enough, Stapleton heads up Edition Records, one of the most innovative and creative companies in the business. Founded in May 2008 with co-director photographer Tim Dickeson, Edition has gone from strength to strength. As well as providing an outlet for emerging talent such as Troyka and Phronesis, Edition have released albums by established artists like Keith Tippett, John Taylor and Neil Yates and promoted stars of the future in Marius Neset and Josh Arcoleo.

He is truly one of the success stories of British jazz. He is a gifted pianist, an exceptional composer, an innovative label boss and a record producer, who brings to the music of others the same care and attention that he lavishes on his own releases. Dave Stapleton is all of these things and much, much more.

The Dave Stapleton Quintet (DSQ) combine muscular intensity with consummate delicacy in performance. A strong frontline of trumpeter Jonny Bruce and saxophonist Ben Waghorn is equalled by the magnificently subtle but pulsing rhythm section of bassist Paula Gardiner and drummer Elliott Bennett. With Stapleton moving between Fender Rhodes and acoustic piano, this is hi-energy jazz. Imagine those great Blue Note and Riverside recordings of the early sixties. DSQ have that same ability to excite heart, mind and body. Their journey so far has taken them on several UK tours and appearances at festivals in Budapest, Cannes (Midem), Cork, Zagreb, Belgrade, London, Brecon and Cheltenham.

Stapleton's exquisitely beautiful and highly evocative music coupled with his multi-functional approach to the business of music led to him being accepted onto the second edition of the prestigious Take Five initiative. Sponsored by the Jerwood/PRS Foundation and managed by international music producers Serious, Take Five provides Britain's most talented young jazz musicians with the unique opportunity to take 'time out' to develop their craft.

In Stapleton's case, it has clearly paid dividends already. He continues to develop as a musician, as a composer and as a business man. In 2006, he signed an exclusive worldwide publishing deal with Westbury Music Ltd. Then in June 2008 and 2009, he was nominated for the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Composers in recognition of his abilities and potential as a composer.

Always keen to spread his wings, Stapleton has written a number of scores for animations and short films. These include Pellegrina for the S4C (Channel Four Wales) short animation and The Outsider, which won Best Welsh Film Award at the Cardiff Film Festival. And in Spring 2009, the Mavron String Quartet premiered Stapleton's first work for string quartet in Cardiff. But perhaps his finest work to date is the wonderful Catching Sunlight (EDN1005). A glance at the cover with its haunting Stapleton photograph tells you this is something special. It grew from a commission from the Lunar Saxophone Quartet, to which Stapleton added trumpeter Neil Yates and his own rhythm section.

Released to universal acclaim in 2008, Catching Sunlight has been highly praised in the UK, in Ireland, in France, in Russia and received a five star review in German magazine Jazzthetik. The review in the Independent on Sunday described the music as "among the best performances I've heard all year". And the Irish Times noted in its four star review that:

"Dave Stapleton's writing, which is so well conceived that it's sometimes difficult to separate the written from the improvised."

But Piano Magazine gave the work its most detailed analysis and, as its author was keen to point out, saw it as a sign of Stapleton's progress as a writer:

"His compositional building blocks, repeated ostinati, short motifs that shift through registers and keys, and choppy phrasing alternated with smoother melodic or freely improvised sections, remain the basis of his technique, but the structures are tighter and his playing more deftly controlled than on his earlier recordings".

As a musician, there's a strength and virility to his playing, matched by an innate capacity for tenderness and reflection. As a composer, he draws upon a formidable grasp of jazz, classical and world styles, yet transforms these raw materials into something richly personal. His music touches on the language of contemporary classical music and jazz but matches these with powerful riffs, melodic hooks and intriguing and surprising turns of phrase. Whatever he does, Stapleton brings to each project a questing and searching for adventure.

He has recorded improvised duets with both saxophonist Deri Roberts and pianist Matthew Bourne. The Conway Suite (EDN1006) was recorded in Conway Church in Cardiff with Roberts on tenor and soprano and Stapleton on the church organ. Its distinctive blend of jazz, Bach, minimalism and free improvisation brought comparisons with Jan Garbarek's work with the Hilliard Ensemble. If anything, Stapleton's collaboration with Matthew Bourne, Dismantling the Waterfall (EDN1001), again featuring a gorgeous Stapleton photograph on its cover, received an even warmer response. As Jazzwise said, it is "a fine collaboration between two of the UK's most exciting young pianists."

EDITION RECORDS, the label Stapleton founded in 2007 with photographer Tim Dickeson, has gone from strength to strength. Each release to date has been a jewel and both the Guardian, Jazzwise and BBC Radio 3 have paid tribute to its high production values and innovation. To date, as well as Stapleton's own records, EDITION has released albums by the Keith Tippett Tapestry Orchestra - the legendary Live at Le Mans (EDN1009) - and others just as fine by Geoff Eales, Dave Kane, Mark Lockheart and Troyka. Now with distribution in 23 countries worldwide, EDITION plans a further twelve releases in 2010, including records by Tom Cawley's Curios, as well as the launch of the new Limited Edition imprint.

It’s been a whirlwind few years for welsh born duo known as GEARS. From initial beginnings as a Jackin house producers and DJs in their native Cardiff, the dedicated producers have plotted a carefully devised route to get right to the forefront of the Underground scene, in just two short years the sound had changed drastically. The organic evolution of GEARS productions has been clear for all to see, the cultivation of There instantly recognizable sound an intrinsic part of the journey from humble beginnings. Niche events run buy these guys where the perfect outlet for an adventurous producers like themselves, and their own record label (Naughty Step Records) should have a substantial impact on their flourishing career.

The initial idea to duo under a new alias was to break away from the disco vibe and concentrate on the darker side of house and slowly but surely there sound had evolved into a massive Tech house underground vibe. Following that up with a debut track on Mjuzieek Digital Underground under their old alias was perfect opportunity for GEARS to showcase there new sound and the success of this release gave them the impetus to launch themselves fully into the world of techno. With staunch support from fellow DJ's, GEARS hope to become a regular fixture on the techno line-ups around the UK. On the production front they will follow up with a succession of well crafted EP’s and releases on Naughty Step records. 2015 proved to be a productive year for the Cardiff duo with a constant stream of quality output helping cement there place as a rising stars amongst the Underground community.

During this time they also began to hone their live performance, incorporating exclusive self made music, samples and effects to create a formidable live show perfectly tailored to their needs. There outgoing personality, combined with the vibrant nature of their music has helped the pair engender a unique party atmosphere at any live shows, something house and techno fans around the UK will attest to.

The past two years have seen GEARS continue their studio prowess with a string of yet to release music including some remixes of some tech and house legends tracks that will be getting aired very soon.

With renewed focus on the studio this year as well as a primed touring schedule it’s clear that GEARS name will continue on an inexorable rise. A new EP on Naughty Step Records is imminent and an artist remixes for promotion guaranteed to be dropping soon, something that will no doubt excite the growing fan base of the charismatic duo. their love for live performance will also be indulged with a new live show almost ready to be rolled out, something that will bring a smile to the face of the many GEARS fans who have crossed paths with them over the last year, connecting with them and joining them on what will been an incredible journey. It appears that the coming months will provide a plethora of seminal moments for one of underground music up and coming mavericks!

SUPASTATIC, the supa duo, a fantastic combination male/female between the diva Eva T and the boy of miracle, Ernest C. Both have been friends for years, the idea of SUPASTATIC came about during a brainstorm session on how local entertainment could be improved. With their experience and taste in various electic tunes, and then formed the group SUPASTATIC on May 2011. And not to forget, both having their fruitful experience in local as well as internationally.

SUPASTATIC, first and a very successful gig kicked off on 20th May in Milk Club playing in one of the unique event organized by its own management (Josh Marciano) itself named “DIRTYBEAT” an “International Theme Party” which cover two country, Singapore and Malaysia. DIRTYBEAT is a weekly party celebration in Singapore however DIRTYBEAT event in Malaysia is a monthly basis.

SUPASTATIC, both of them having the profile of spinning in few of the exclusive series event, Hennessy Artistry, have gain recognition amongst local clubbers and promoters for their amazing unique sound. SUPASTATIC is now in the midst of producing their first single for release late 2011.

After leaving her native land of Johor, Eva T has been DJing all over the place, touring around Malaysia & oversea, djing spots that include, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kuantan, Ipoh, Melacca, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching (East Malaysia), & not to forget her homegrown, Johor Bahru.

Recently adding a performance at the biggest party of the year Hennessy Artistry Halo Event, Eva T was the first female deejay to have the opportunity to show up her talents proudly on stage. Not only having the opportunity to spin in one of the biggest event but also, she's been featured in both 8TV entertainment live show , The Celebrity Live Chat & 8TV Quickie. The diva of south well known with her FINEST hip hop & R&B blended with the electrifying electro house music. Although life has taken her in many different directions, but she always knew that music was the path that she wanted to follow and here SHE IS.

For those who love music need to have the opportunity to experience Eva T tantalizing sets that will always have an embossed ambience's which will excite any guest on every level. Her enthusiasm shows no sign of flagging and in 2010, Eva T voted the “Best New DJ” from JUICE Malaysia & Eva T has been chosen to be the ambassador of PACEMAKER Malaysia & also the only DJ among the male and female to perform live on stage with PACEMAKER for the first time ever in Malaysia. EVA T was made to bring the house down with her wicked tunes and since then she has built a huge popularity with party people and clubbers everywhere. Eva T will be holding a residency in two different club different country which is Singapore and Malaysia start from April.

✦ DJ Ernest C:
DJ Ernest C, best defined by the party crowd “The Miracle Boy”, and you have to believe it because he drives the crowd goes crazy anytime anywhere. DJ Ernest C aka Ernest Chow started dj-ing at the age of 17. He first started dance music by playing House music, but later on he discovered some other music genre ranging from Electro to Techno. At the age of 17, while he’s still a bedroom DJ he managed to get to play a night in one of Malaysia's most renowned super clubs, 'Atmosphere'. In 2005, he managed to work his way up to get booked to play for Club18 ‘Grand Opening’ outdoor party.

After that, he started to get bookings to play in few clubs such as Espanda, Nouvo, Sugar and Maison for events such as ‘Seven Records & Friends’ and ‘Midnight Funk Association’. Early of 2007 he has played in Bandung and Jakarta, Indonesia . Other than that, he has played in India and also Melbourne. Ernest is one of the youngest DJ at the age of 19 to play in so many renowned clubs. He attempts to take it to another level with his versatile selection of music genres ranging from Disco House to Electro.

Ernest is now the up and coming DJ in KL. In the late 2008, Ernest has form a group, name Supreme Phunk Assassins better known as “The S.P.A” , is the brainchild of upcoming House & Techno DJ/Producer Romel Johan & the infamous house duo “E2” (E-Squared) by adopting Dave The Drummer aka Henry Cullen’s motto of “Mutate to Survive”. Where they have been regionally & internationally know for their signature Electro-Hop, House, Nu-Rave, Techno & Bootleg sets, also dubbed as the Malaysian Bootleg kings where they are known to remix anything from Rock right up to Hip-Hop and R&B live!

Having the profile of spinning in one of the exclusive regional series event, Hennessy Artistry on December 2009 at Quattro, Kuala Lumpur, Ernest well recognized anywhere anytime by his followers. Recently starting their own unique Live Set which consist of 2 Laptops, Live Synths, Turntablism & 4-CDJ’s. They have rapidly gain recognition amongst local clubbers and promoters for their amazing unique sound. Having toured half the world, he is now in the midst of producing his first Album set for release late 2011. With his famous saying of which

Max Cooper is an electronic composer, multi-disciplinary artist, music label founder and former scientist who has carved out a unique space in music and visual art.

He holds a PhD in computational biology at the same time as being the first contemporary electronic musician to perform at the ancient Acropolis theatre in Athens and one of the first clutch of musicians to produce in Dolby Atmos.

Cooper has enquired for over 15 years through music, collaborations, and his label Mesh, to explore the intersections between the arts and sciences with installations, performances, immersive experiences, online media, music videos and live events.  Anchored throughout is his emotive approach, connecting how ideas and forms feel, in a manner accessible to us all. 
 
As an artist synonymous with the evolution of club culture, Cooper honed his craft as a DJ with a 10 year residency at legendary Midlands techno event Firefly where he formed a foundational relationship with Architecture Social Club, with whom he still collaborates on extravagant immersive installations.

"I want to encourage the acceptance of electronic music as an art form like any other. Bringing electronic music and abstract audio-visual projects into concert halls, museums and galleries is liberating - the art world opens up doors to communicate in ways that aren’t possible elsewhere."
