SMOOVE -IM A B BOY

The Getup are more than your average Hammond Funk outfit and this track proves it. A bubbling bass line kicks the track into a killer up tempo funk groove, having you reaching for the volume knob to crank it up as the first verse bursts out.  The track takes on a whole new dimension as the chorus reveals a four-on-the-floor solid dance groove, with Jamiroqui-esque tasty chord changes, and then the horns stab us back into the next verse.  A percussive, reverberant Hammond solo takes us into a drum break that is DJ and sampler's heaven, before the tunes rounds out with a double chorus and ends on more punchy stabs……. a midtempo vocal workout showcasing the sheer musicality of the band…….funk of the highest order!

Brooklyn's Breakdown Brass dropped yet another killer 45! They've unleashed an original juggernaut entitled "Harrow", a follow-up to their smash debut 45 "Monmouth b/w Next Episode" (Kept Records) and sophomore 45 "The Horseman b/w Mary Jane" (Mixto Music). Driving, dirty horns are punctuated by intense trombone and baritone sax solos - prepare your stank face.

The B-side "Nautilus (Hijacked)" is a dance-floor burner that pays homage to Bob James, whose track Nautilus has been heavily sampled by Slick Rick, Eric B & Rakim, Run-DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, Onyx, Wu Tang Clan, Big L, Pete Rock and about 300 others. Throw in some Herbie Mann/Beatnuts and you got yourself a hit!

The members of Breakdown Brass stay busy - touring and recording with Ikebe Shakedown, Antibalas, Lee Fields, Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, Monophonics and many others. Led by Nadav Nirenberg on trombone, their unique combination of heavy Afro-Funk with the sizzle of Balkan Brass has caught the eye of Gilles Peterson, NPR, BBC and more.

"Borneo fits into the category of what I call "super jazz", ie: Jazz that is great for everyone and every "body". It's taken from Cal Tjader's early 60's LP; 'Several Shades Of Jade' on Verve. The back of the jacket states: "The sound and feeling of the music of the Orient combine with the freedom of American Jazz"  and I featured it on my 'Funk The World 13' mix for Fort Knox Five. This edit (really a remix, but the terminology has changed lately) is part of a new series I'll be doing called "G got the Jazz"; a result of people really yearning to hear & dance to some different & amazing sounds. There is a TONNE of awesome, potentially danceable Jazz music that can really keep the party going IF given the right treatment (drums & sub bass in this instance). Having first been used in Hip Hop by Daddy Kev for his track with Awol; "Rhythm", this edit is a sureshot winner for eclectic dj's and crowds the world over. "Matasuna Records" kicks off 2021 with another 7inch. This record features two remixes by German DJ and producer "David Hanke" aka "Renegades Of Jazz", for Afro-latin Funk bands "Brownout" and "Jungle Fire". Brownout's remix was first released in 2013 via Paris DJs on a very limited run of 45s and quickly became very sought after. By painstakingly cutting every instrument's individual notes, increasing the tempo and adding in a punchy breakbeat at the end, David turned "Flaximus" into an up-tempo dancefloor hit.

Jungle FIre's song "Comencemos" that appears on the B side is a cover version of Fela Ransome-Kuti's song "Let's Start".David added some more Afrofunk elements to the Jungle Fire version and builds a bridge to the original Fela version with the additional elements. The Jungle Fire remix is previously unreleased and will be available on vinyl for the first time.

"David Hanke" has been linked to "Matasuna Records" since our early days, when he released his "Dem Juju Poets" debut album on Matasuna in 2017. Most recently he delivered a dancefloor-friendly edit of "Mawuli Decker's" "Mololi-Lomko" at the end of 2020, again released on Matasuna. David is constantly producing and surprises regularly with new musical projects, restlessly trying to develop and refine his sound. With his new label, "Bathurst", he created a home for all his electronic music projects. Bathurst follows the notion of not focusing on any formats or genres, but caring more about the electronic music Hanke adores.

Nine-piece band "Brownout" from Austin/Texas, was formed in 2005 by members of the Grammy Award-winning Latin orchestra "Grupo Fantasma" and have since become a musical force of their own. In addition to three Austin Music Awards, the band has performed at countless events and festivals and has regularly toured the U.S. also as highly sought-after backing band for artists like Prince, GZA and many more. Their albums and singles have been released on labels like "Freestyle Records", "Ubiquity" or "Fat Beats".

"Jungle Fire" is an Afrolatin Funk band from Los Angeles known for their authentic and highly explosive sound. They quickly gained attention of the local Los Angeles scene and beyond, which led to their first release on the Funk and Soul label "Colemine". Other releases have been released on "Nacional Records", "Paris DJs" and "Razor N Tape". Their second album "Jambú" debuted at #4 on the Billboard Latin charts in February 2017 which led to numerous features in several movies, commercials and TV shows. They create a unique Afro-Tropical sound by combining West African rhythms with heavy funk elements.
