Unsteady Waters is Harlan Crowe’s country/indie-rock odyssey—baritone lead over twangy Telecasters, pedal steel, and a hip-hop drum kit, stretched into progressive, psychedelic widescreen. Twelve songs flow seamlessly, each scene morphing via field-foley transitions (river → embers → temple hush → harbor wind → kitchen clink → open range), carrying a pilgrim’s arc from doubt to courage. Hooks are earthy and lived-in; arrangements breathe and sprawl—vocal chants, long instrumental passages, synth soundscapes, and circle-dance energy—then the finale loops back to Track 1 for continuous play. For fans of cinematic country, alt-folk, and beat-driven Americana.

This is not twelve-tone music, not by a long stretch, although I did use every note of the chromatic scale and gave them more equal billing than is usual in any music not grown in an academic hothouse. This song was done for a contest of the Songwriter Forum Kitchen. Initially I thought the challenge was to write a song not in the standard 4/4 measure. But after finishing this track I found out the rule was to write a 3/4 waltz. So this is a left over.

This is is a political song. The quality of a US-leader (ex by now!) is of concern to all Western countries. The shattered glass in the photo symbolizes the effect this president has on his relationships with many people and countries except perhaps Russia...

This track was edited from Lockdown Collaboration 1, recorded live at home on the 18th April 2020, exclusively using the wonderful music of @idin-samimi-mofakham and his partner @martyna-kosecka as source material. 

This was quite early on in Lockdown, when angst and worry seemed at its peak, so perhaps unsurprisingly, the piece has come out quite dark and ominous (though not as dark and scary as Hell Hath No Fury, which immediately precedes it!).
