In the 1980s through the early 2000s, the automatic seatbelt was hailed as a way to prevent traffic deaths.  It seemed like a good idea…but wound up being tossed aside as an unnecessary one.  The idea of automatically connecting your seatbelt didn’t wind up having the intended effect, and become more harmful than helpful.

In a similar way, we have a habit as humans to invent things in our spiritual life that we think will be helpful—but turn out to be unnecessary.  We say, “What matters is the Gospel!”   But we live and act as if the resurrection of Jesus isn’t the only thing.  What are some of the unnecessary inventions in our life of faith?  And how can we live with Easter eyes in everything we do?
