“Whales” treats the listener to a cocktail of CLOUD’s signature styles, with catchy melodies throughout, ethereal vocals from the band’s Front-man Tom Collins, impressive musicianship from every member of the band, and heavy-hitting choruses that’ll have everyone banging their heads, whether they’re at a show or not.

Their latest single tackles the ever-present modern struggle to break away from social media, the platforms that allow us to strip away whatever we choose in order to show only the best sides of us, leaving behind a portrayal of ourselves that is almost entirely detached from who we actually are. The single hones on the desire to share every thought, feeling and detail of one’s life, letting your inner monologues spill out, sharing everything with as many people as possible. The track’s upbeat and punchy nature juxtaposed with the heavy topic is meant to portray the immense number of people who give off this illusion of a happy life when in reality, it is quite the opposite.

Produced, mixed and mastered by Calvin Bennett in Perth, ‘Button-Up Shirts’ sees Chapman flesh out the rich sounds that have formed the foundation of her musicality in recent years. Having proven herself as a strong songwriter, with the ability to hypnotize with her butter-like vocal and sharp instrumentation, ‘Button-Up Shirts’ is a moment for Chapman to elevate and flex her refreshed sonic palette and influence mood board.
