MIGHTY Your Deeds — The Song of Moses and the Lamb (from Revelation 15:3-4) by Roger Paul Peterson. 

Based on Revelation 15:3-4, “MIGHTY” musically transports you to the power, the mystery, the might, the holiness, the righteousness and forgiving love of God in heaven (the eternal, sorrow-free home which God has prepared for all who trust Jesus Christ for forgiveness of their sins). With Jason Schoolmeesters (all vocals), Blake Givargidze (drum kit), Chris Sorenson (guitar solo) and Danny Straub (vocal recording engineer, Moonlight Studios, New Brighton, Minnesota). Composed by Roger Peterson in 1998 and digitally recorded by Roger Paul Peterson Music, Orlando, Florida, between Fall 2020 and Spring 2021.

What makes it a “Hillbilly Love Song”?

It’s a piano-driven boogie shuffle/ragtime, set in the context of a 1980s smoke-filled stage in a Texas honky tonk dive. In spite of all their obvious physical flaws, the guy and gal singers have a deep, time-tested love for one another — so much so, that they can toss musical love barbs back and forth, without actually insulting the other person (“… but you’re still a honey to me!”)

What’s a Hillbilly Love Song? In spite of my glaring defects and your flagrant flaws, we still love each other anyway! Even though my “nose looks like a fishhook” and even though “you sing just like m’ dawg ... I don’t care, what’cha might be, ’cause you’re still a honey to me!” I wrote the initial lyrics and verses, chorus & ragtime ending as a college student in Iowa. Later I composed the bridge & completed the lyrics in Minnesota, finally recording this piece in my Orlando studio in 2022.

Short and light ... a peaceful 2-minute piano ballad passionately caressed with romantic highlights. The affectionate first movement makes its tranquil appearance in Ab, then gently transposes to Db for a restful, soothing second movement culminating into a peaceful ending.

I met the inspiration for my song “Marcato Staccato – A Tribute to Keith Emerson” backstage on June 11, 1977, after a breathtaking, full orchestra ELP concert in St. Paul, Minnesota (the Works Tour). I still have my caterer’s backstage pass for that show — although the ink is beginning to fade away. I had a question for Keith, and without any hesitation, he took me up onstage to his beat-up Hammond L-100 and demonstrated the answer to my question.

Little did I realize at that time the Works Tour was in the midst of financial ruin. Even though that must have weighed heavily on his mind (and pocketbook) that evening, Keith still gave me his personal, undivided attention. 100% attention. He seemed to honestly care about me as a real person during those brief backstage moments we had together. Just Keith and me. No one else was there.

It was Keith’s genuine care for human beings (even no-names like me), coupled with his never-ever-matched keyboard skills, that inspired me to write this song in his honor. After listening to a demo of my song, Keith’s son Aaron replied, “Thanks for sending this over! I can definitely hear my dad’s influence here - very ‘Hoedown’! You have my absolute blessing to name it in his honour.”

“Marcato Staccato – A Tribute to Keith Emerson” is primarily influenced by Keith’s riveting rendering of Aaron Copeland’s “Hoedown” (Trilogy album), including Keith’s “Shortnin’ Bread” tease before he lays into his massive modular Moog to polish off this particular masterpiece.

While “Hoedown” is clearly my foremost influence, my initial inspiration came from Keith’s Hammond keyboard line underneath Greg Lake’s vocal line “… no computer stands in my way …” on ELP’s “Karn Evil 9 (3rd Impression)” (Brain Salad Surgery album), which I borrowed and paired with Keith’s “Shortnin’ Bread” tease (those two fit together so very well!). And my layered-ending build at the end was inspired by Keith’s spectacular layering work on “Abaddon’s Bolero” (also the Trilogy album).

Here’s a brand new, classic church wedding bells / church pipe organ song. “Bridal Promenade Wedding March” is a triumphant presentation of a radiant, beautiful bride walking ceremoniously down the aisle to join her exuberant wedding party. This brief 53-second wedding march culminates with a majestic, all-stops-pulled pipe organ, soaring trumpet and triumphant timpani as the bride presents herself at the altar before God, family and friends — ready to exchange vows of love and life together with her husband.
