What makes it a “Hillbilly Love Song”?

It’s a piano-driven boogie shuffle/ragtime, set in the context of a 1980s smoke-filled stage in a Texas honky tonk dive. In spite of all their obvious physical flaws, the guy and gal singers have a deep, time-tested love for one another — so much so, that they can toss musical love barbs back and forth, without actually insulting the other person (“… but you’re still a honey to me!”)

What’s a Hillbilly Love Song? In spite of my glaring defects and your flagrant flaws, we still love each other anyway! Even though my “nose looks like a fishhook” and even though “you sing just like m’ dawg ... I don’t care, what’cha might be, ’cause you’re still a honey to me!” I wrote the initial lyrics and verses, chorus & ragtime ending as a college student in Iowa. Later I composed the bridge & completed the lyrics in Minnesota, finally recording this piece in my Orlando studio in 2022.
