Do you believe in conincidences?

I don’t - anymore. I used to believe in conincidences but I’ve learned that everything happens for a reason. And that everything in life happens for you, not to you.

So, I have been busying myself with the idea of an remix album of classic tracks of mine for quite some time. But I struggled with the selection of tracks and which remix artist to pair with which track.  Until certain people entered my life. Some of them I only „met“ through their music on social media and never in person, others I met briefly, like in a car to a festival and some I started to hang out with and they became real life friends. All of these people connect with my music and I feel drawn to their music and in many ways we insprire each other.  As a natural result this remix EP took shape and I am excited to present it to you. The record contains four remixes of tracks from my back catalogue that cover a period of 20 (!) years, from my early days on Bush in the mid 90s to my first label Spiel-Zeug Schallplatten in the 00`s up until now, where I run Electric Ballroom from Berlin. Hot on the heels of the first Get Physical Presents: Cocada taster EP comes another one, this time with a brace of brilliant cuts from Nuno Deconto and Leo Janeiro & Mumbaata.

Leo Janeiro is the man who has put together this brilliant new compilation which, in association with Get Physical and the Brazil Music Conference, shines a light on esteemed producers from Latin America. The Cocada name will also give rise to events and workshops in the region, all with the aim of shining a light on this most exciting emerging scene.

“Roland Leesker [Get Physical co-founder] derives enormous pleasure from experiencing new sounds from other cultures and continents, and naturally this characteristic has increased both his interest and that of the label for Brazilian music,” says Claudio da Rocha Miranda Filho, creator of what has become the largest
electronic music conference in Latin America.

First up here, Nuno Deconto is a skilled DJ who plays across CDJs and vinyl decks. His style is couched in techno but touches on acid, minimal, deeper and more abstract sounds. It results in original and atmospheric tracks such as the one here, ‘Raizes’. Over seven scintillating minutes he really takes us on a trip through a futuristic cosmos, with twinkling keys and streaming neon synths. The drums drive on with a techno urgency and sink you ever deeper into a state of hypnosis. It’s a perfectly crafted track that will mark a real standout in any set.

The man behind the mix Leo Janeiro then links with Mumbaata, as he has done many times before now to great acclaim on labels like Warung Recordings. Their track ‘Blaze’ is a loose and playful number with corrugated bass underneath big wooden xylophone like sounds. 

They flail loosely as bright synth stabs add to the sense of colour and
celebration, and all in all it’s an arresting groove that sucks you right in. This is another great EP that hints at the essential offerings of the full Get Physical Presents: Cocada, that is out now.

The mighty Get Physical march on with another carefully curated compilation, this time featuring 12 exclusive tracks from mainly American artists, curated by m.O.N.R.O.E.

m.O.N.R.O.E. is American Jordan Postrel, a Miami based DJ who has released on labels like Kindish, Viva Music and Saved Records and has previously put together a number of compilation for Get Physical. He has a fresh take on tech house that has seen him become a well-established DJ back home, and the perfect person to represent his homeland’s underground sound.

Featuring a mix of artists old and new, this is a great window into the ever more essential American underground that proves fresh new talent is always coming up and Get Physical know about them before anyone else. The mix kicks off with the driving Dance Spirit track ‘Music Is Life’ with its fluttery flutes, before m.O.N.R.O.E himself offers the loose and dreamy deep house of ‘Refresh.’

Adisyn then gets cosmic with a swirling deep house number that is coloured with lovely neon pads, and Daniel Dubb hypnotises with his dubbed out roller ‘Blast’.

Long time scene stalwart Robert Babicz goes for a more edgy and sharp tech house tune with acid bass and arpeggiated synths that reach to the skies and m.O.N.R.O.E appears again to remix the opening track into something perfectly smooth and zoned
out. The likes of Casah, martinek and Ennio Skoto then keep things richly atmospheric and deep with cavernous cuts that work on the mind as much as the heel and range from house to minimal. Lastly, Michael Gin rounds out what is a heady mix in real style with ‘Y=X’, a deep cut with swirling techno pads and icy hi hats. 

This is an excellent showcase of the contemporary American underground compiled perfectly by m.O.N.R.O.E and Get Physical. The album will also be a supported with a tour of America, including a number of key cities south of the border and will feature key artist line ups playing alongside m.O.N.R.O.E.
