My first composition with wind instruments, and it was an extremely refreshing experience and a distraction from composing strictly with a piano the last few years.
The main theme itself is a long ago composed simple keyboard theme that I've always kept close at heart. 
I've rarely left B minor in this piece, save from some chromatic sections and D Major/ E minor restatements and an new F-sharp major and minor theme in the quasi development section.
I've tried to give prominence/independece to every instrument in different section, but since I know next to nothing about wind instruments, I probably made a ton of stylistic errors.
All in all, I've very pleased with how this piece turned out, it has a certain rustic or medieval feel to it, coupled with few sections that feel, at least to me, dark-folkloric or even eldritch.

Mid-track, semi-arpeggiated bell tones emerge, adding timbral depth with melodies that evoke the wonder of interstellar exploration. The profound emotional impact of the September 8, 2023 earthquake in Morocco inspired this composition as a tribute to the victims and a celebration of the nation’s rich musical heritage. Initially conceived as a sextet, the piece was premiered on June 9th by the American Modern Ensemble under the baton of Eric Bodnar. It subsequently underwent a transformative journey when my friend and fellow composer, Ian Weise, proposed an adaptation for Pierrot ensemble during the Mostly Modern Festival in Saratoga Springs, June 2024. His vision of a 2025 concert featuring this arrangement ignited a new creative path.

This piece stands as the inaugural movement of a larger suite exploring the multifaceted layers of Moroccan musical tradition, with a particular focus on the evocative melodies of the High Atlas. By reinterpreting these melodies through the unique lens of the Pierrot ensemble—flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and piano—I seek to create a contemporary musical dialogue that honors the past while forging a new path forward.

Through this composition, I hope to offer a poignant and evocative musical experience that resonates with listeners on both an emotional and intellectual level.

Episode #2:  “The Mead of Poetry”
After war between the Aesir and Vanir gods, a peace was sealed by creating a being named Kvasir from their combined saliva. However, two dwarves, Fjalar and Galar, killed Kvasir and mixed his blood with honey to create the ‘Mead of Poetry’, which granted anyone who drank it the ability to compose poetry and gain wisdom.
The dwarves later killed a giant named Gilling and his wife, attracting the wrath of Gilling's son, Suttung. To save themselves, the dwarves offered the mead to Suttung, who hid it in a cave guarded by his daughter, Gunnlod.
Odin, seeking the mead, embarked on a complex quest, using trickery and disguise. He worked for Baugi, Suttung's brother, and eventually convinced Baugi to help him reach the cave. Odin seduced Gunnlod, spending three nights with her in exchange for three sips of the mead. However, Odin drank all of it, transformed into an eagle, and escaped back to Asgard. Odin distributed the mead to the gods and the most talented poets, although a small portion was lost, thus becoming the source of poetic inspiration.
