Today we bring you a special guest mix from the vinyl don himself @jp, we’ve been sat on this mix for a while to long. Whole hour of full garage heaters. Guaranteed to have you bubbling.
We asked James JP a few questions following his guest mix.

-Can you tell us a little about yourself?

-I started DJing and collecting records since I was 16 in 1997, was a East London boy so Rhythm Division, record village and Criminal records were my go to for all things House and Garage. I soon found my love for pirate radio and putting this mix together with the pirate station samples brought back loads of good memories for me! Mission FM, Freak FM, ICE FM and Taste FM for me is where it all really started, listing to the late night DJs as they played real obscure underground heavier sounds which is what I consider my roots. 
I had the drive time show on north London’s Subjam FM after the commercial times of 2001 where Garage had lost its flair, I started on Subjam in 2005 just as it all picked up again with the bumpy sounds of Qualified / $ki / Duncan Powell etc. 

-What and who are some of your main influences?

-I would say my DJ influences have to be Colin i, Martin Larner, Mikee B, and Mala. 
From a production POV, it has to be El-b, Banana Republic, Tuff Jam, Stevie Gurley, Chris Mac and of course Andy Mowat.

-What is your view of modern day UKG?

-2020 and 2021 was and has been a great year for UK Garage, we are seeing production like never before and that feeling of production levels dating back to the early days, it’s really positive. 
I am working closely this year with Hitch.93 how has been recently signed to probably to most successful UK Garage label since the turn of 2020. To be announced very soon! If you don’t know Hitch.93 check him out! A top producer from Chile, making a very unique sound of Uk Garage.

-And finally what’s the weirdest things you’ve seen in a rave? 

-As for the weirdest thing I’ve seen in a rave, it would have to of been at Club Colosseum, we rocked up ready for a night of good music and when we arrived there was no que which was odd. Got to the desk and was asked if we were hear for the right night, a little confused we said yea, paid our money and took to the stairs and as we entered the main arena we were definitely at the wrong night - it was a bondage session night and people were tied up all over the club. There were people dressed head to toe in leather, one person on a full gimp suit with what looked like a plastic apple in his mouth, We quickly left and only returned when we knew it was a garage night 😆

Soulecta - Guest Mix for Kiss Fresh - October 13th 2020

Rounding up some of my personal favourites from throughout 2020! What a b*stard of a year it's been, but the calibre of music I've received has been beyond outstanding! Massive thank you to every single one of you who took the time out to send me your music - it's massively appreciated and please don't stop!

Without dwelling on the negatives of 2020 too much, I'll summarise by saying very simply; never allow the "opinions" of others to prevent you from doing what you love most. Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind!

Massive thank you to the team at Rinse for keeping me active throughout what's been a very quiet year event wise.

Here's hoping for a better 2021!
