The songs are part of a long-distance collaboration between two Argentine producers living in different parts of the world - Buenos Aires (Lucas Page a.k.a GUAZÚ) and Seattle (Martín Selasco a.k.a Terror/Cactus). After connecting through social media and exchanging remixes, GUAZÚ and Terror/Cactus felt inspired to co-create music that merged both of their individual styles. Each working out of their personal home studios, they put together the songs by sharing tracks and ideas via email.

Directly from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this set was created by DJs Yule and Alive Pop-Up during carnival in pandemic times. The inspiration came to Yule a few years ago when she saw some dj sets like Projeto Mujique and Vovóhop. They sought ultra-popular Brazilian references and tried to express some of the things that you would, for sure, hear in Brazilian streets during carnival. For those who have never been to a Carnival in Brazil, it is nothing more (and nothing less) than a total and endless mess of costumes and unsynchronized music. Through lots of different drums and live versions of extremely famous songs they try to bring this nostalgic feeling: complete madness. Mixing Brazilian popular styles was Flavio Cesar's idea. Music researcher, owner of a legacy of 5,000 records, and one of the most beloved guys in the Brazilian vinyl scene, Alive Pop-Up is also an itinerant record store project, open to the 4 corners of the planet, traveling and receiving international vinyl buyers here in Brazil, and passing our heritage through discotheques and exhibitions. Flavio was not only essential for the music selection but also participated in the first minutes of the set as a great Master of Ceremony, opening the party! Some of these lyrics are extremely politic, as in Mangueira's Samba, Or Veronez live street recording, and others extremely sexy and flirty. This set tries to go to every single corner of Brasil. Shika Shika presents our new Botanas by MAUGLI, an artist we have had on our radars and playlists for a while due to his really unique production style and sound. Somewhere between hip-hop, very skilled cut and paste sampling and crisp production. With this Botanas he doesn't disappoint with two absolutely delicious cuts of his signature style.

Trouble Feat. Flolento
'First track 'Trouble' is a collaboration with Eigenklang member Flolento on the clarinet and was originally inspired by the notorious 'Six Boys in Trouble. In the early 1950s a group of kids from housing projects jammed on homemade percussion and sang along with it. With a ton of soul and the first signs of something resembling rap flows (in the 50s!!!) the recordings spark pure joy to me. At some point the sample flew out and ended up on another song and then I asked Flolento and his clarinet to jump in to contrast the pouring wet guitarlicks - chop choppidy, chop and the jam was ready to be served.

Kiliman
Kiliman was inspired by a PVC tube jam and sung poetry from Harak and various Brao groups of Southern Laos. What struck me first was the laid back vibe that came across the recordings. A perfect base to garn with raw drums and pure sine waves for some serious sweaty, booty shaking. There are super secret undercover hints to the original samples sprinkled in there as well to other quotes in this collaged piece of music.

Drawing inspiration from the sacred volcanic lake Atitlan he calls home in the Mayan highlands of Guatemala, Mixwell weaves his sound from a rich tapestry of cultural influence that invokes the spirits of our ancestral lands while igniting the dancefloor.

"Espíritu de Fuego" explores some of the traditional sounds and textures that have most inspired Mixwell's musical journey - the Afro-Brazilian Berimbau and Cuica on "rebelião", the chilling sound of Colombia's native Gaita flutes on the title track, and the tribal chants on "vudu", all seem to evoke a fiery spirit, a wildly infectious energy that summon the body into ecstatic movement.

"Manhã de Carnaval" ("Carnival Morning") is a song by Brazilian composer Luiz Bonfá and lyricist Antônio Maria. "Manhã de Carnaval" appeared as a principal theme in the 1959 Portuguese-language film Orfeu Negro by the french director Marcel Camus. The film's soundtrack also included songs by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes, as well as her composition by Bonfá ("Samba de Orfeu"). "Manhã de Carnaval" appear in the film, including versions sung or hummed by both the principal characters (Orfeu and Euridice), as well as an instrumental version, so that the song has been described as the main musical theme of the film. In the portion of the film in which the song is sung by the character Orfeu, portrayed by Breno Mello, the song was dubbed by Agostinho dos Santos. The song was initially rejected for inclusion in the film by Camus, but Bonfá was able to convince the director that the music for Manhã de Carnaval was superior to the song Bonfá composed as a replacement. Orfeu Negro was an international success (winning, for example, an Academy Award in 1960), and brought the song to a large audience. "Manhã de Carnaval"' became one of the first Bossa Nova compositions to gain popularity outside Brazil. Particularly in the United States, the song is considered to be one of the most important Brazilian Jazz/Bossa songs that helped establish the Bossa Nova movement in the late 1950s. "Manhã de Carnaval" has become a jazz standard in the U.S., while it is still performed regularly by a wide variety of musicians around the world in its vocalized version or just as an instrumental one. In the U.S., the song is also known as "A Day in the Life of a Fool", "Carnival", "Theme from Black Orpheus", or simply "Black Orpheus". In France, the song is also known as "La Chanson d'Orphée". All versions of foreign texts were written by lyricists other than Antônio Maria, using Bonfá's original music."
