100 Years of Country Music CD

"Tennessee Whiskey" was written in 1981 by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. The pair decided to write a song together after meeting each other at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. He had an idea for it for some time and they went back to Hargrove's house to write the song at four o'clock in the morning.

After completion, the song was first offered to George Strait but he turned it down. It was first recorded by American country music artist David Allan Coe for his album of the same name, released in 1981.

Tennessee Whiskey

"Take Me Home, Country Roads", also known simply as "Country Roads", was written by Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert and John Denver. It was released as a single performed by Denver on April 12, 1971, peaking at number two on Billboard's US Hot 100 singles for the week ending August 28, 1971. The song was a success on its initial release and was certified Gold by the RIAA on August 18, 1971, and Platinum on April 10, 2017. The song became one of John Denver's most popular songs. It has continued to sell, with over 1.6 million digital copies sold in the United States.

Take Me Home, Country Roads

This is my rendition of the great 2005 hit of Josh Turner.  Written by Chris Stapleton, Chris DuBois and Jace Everett,  it became Turner's first number one hit on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in early 2006. The song was certified Gold in 2006 by the RIAA, Platinum in 2012, Double Platinum in 2018 and Triple Platinum in 2021.

Today I Started Loving You Again

"Crying" is a song written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson for Orbison's third studio album of the same name (1962). Released in 1961, it was a number 2 hit in the US for Orbison and was covered in 1978 by Don McLean, whose version went to number 1 in the UK in 1980. Dave Marsh calls the song a "rock-bolero" with "blaring strings, hammered tympani, a ghostly chorus, the gentle strum of a guitar, and a hint of marimba"

"Islands in the Stream" was written by the Bee Gees and recorded by American country music artists Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. It was released in August 1983 as the first single from Rogers' fifteenth studio album "Eyes That See in the Dark". The Bee Gees released a live version in 1998 and a studio version in 2001.
