Sound on Sound is a live ambient project in which I use electric violin, looping pedals and reel-to-reel techniques to create organic music for spaces, interacting with the surrounding sounds, the energy of the people or the objects present. 

For over 30 years I have been intrigued by the interaction and synergy between visual arts, time, space and music. 

I started composing to visual arts very early on in my career, creating soundscapes/musical portraits to paintings by the French artist Leonor Fini, whom I befriended in Paris. Later on my encounter with Indian (Carnatic) music made me appreciate the illusions of time and space even more and I got inspired by composers of minimal music who used tape machines which enabled them to use and re-use sounds as layers of musical paint on an ever changing canvas.

In this project performing live on electric violin and (looping) pedals allows me to adapt musical character and shading to a particular space and moment in time, painting the atmosphere or catching the vibe of the moment, tuning into the energies surrounding us.

Stephen Sparks III, better known as BlinkEase (Blink), is no stranger to the various twists and turns that life brings. Perils seemed to come early, as his Chicago-born father was incarcerated for murder when his only son was a few weeks old.  Forcing Stephan’s mother, a Flint, Michigan native to pack up their possessions and head back to familiar territory for a fresh start for them both. However, “the fresh start” opened Stephan’s eyes and mind to much more than music. This gave him his first look at the infamous struggles with poverty and violence that the city of Flint is known for.
In the Mid-90’s, Stephan’s mother enlisted her parents help raising the young boy. They initially promoted the creative freedom that helped Stephan to understand & appreciate different forms of art. By allowing access to different forms of artistic expression, his mother encouraged his musical interests stating, “I noticed that he had an incredible thirst for music. He would stay up nights listening to everything from Nas to Outkast; and by morning he’d be blasting Dilated Peoples, DMX or (Uncle) Luke.” Stephan credits his mother’s parental style of “informing not secluding” as the difference that allowed him to capture and create the vivid imagery of reality in his music. By 8th grade, Stephan began taking his love for crafting words seriously even acquiring a nickname from a fellow student who refused to call him anything but “Blink” after she obsessed over his eyes. It didn’t take long for the moniker to stick; especially after adding “Ease” to the end to describe his laid back demeanor. 
Stephan began to hone his skills as a lyricist and musician becoming: “BlinkEase” with the help of experience, family and friends. His music became his canvas and his life the brush allowing Blink to paint compelling stories with his words. Blink’s lyrics became a therapeutic way of coping with his impoverished surroundings on the South-Side of Flint. By 2003, Blink had took to the streets to feed and clothe himself which led to a federal indictment in 2010 that looked to derail his life and music career almost as soon as he was gaining ground in the city. 
After a year of court proceeding and lack of evidence Blink beat the drug charge; barely escaping a 5-40 year prison sentence. Upon his release Blink distanced himself from his former life to concentrate on his music career. Releasing several EP’s before his debut mixtape “Clarify” was released in February of 2013, Blink saw great response with underground hits like “No Sunshine” featuring Bosky Ochoa, “Hello” featuring Bammstar and “Cases” which gave a raw look into his previous legal woes. The 19 track delivering did well beyond expectations selling 300 physical copies and more than 200 downloads and streams; leading him to be named one of Flint’s “Freshmen 10” by Author/Blogger Olivia Brown in the summer of 2013. Not letting any success go to his head, Blink is already gearing up follow up project: Preservation set to be released in the fall of 2013. 


Hi guys! I make some music in my free time, and although it's probably very mediocre, I'd really appreciate if you could leave some feedback for me. Keep in mind I have not purchased a notation software, so the only software I use is: Garageband and Musescore, so my canvas is pretty limited. In terms of the types of music I make, I usually make acapella arrangements, but I like to make some music that would probably fit in a video game soundtrack if in nothing else.
